Chapter 11
Alison has been careful to avoid me yesterday and today. Either that, or she and Johnny have both gone missing. Maybe they've snuck off to get married and become wolf-people, living in a cave and eating raw meat to survive. I wouldn't put it past Johnny, but Alison is way too prissy for that. She'd die at hearing a squirrel out in the woods.
I know she's been around the camp because Alex saw her. How else would he know she is pregnant? Other than perhaps genuine psychic ability, which I don't doubt he has.
I've been able to keep my sights on the other three girls though. They haven't gotten into trouble since the last fight. It seems as though they are finally getting their bearings, and finding their places.
Frank's been on her own too, since I last spoke to her. At first I thought Blaize might have ditched her, but it seems as though they both just deciding they have better things to do then spend every second together. It surprised me that Frank even lasted about a week with Blaize. Since they split, Frank has been disappearing all day. Whether she is going to train or to explore, I've got no idea, but I've got the feeling it's neither. She seems like the kind to spy.
Spying isn't up Blaize's alley. She's big, and bold, and always there. So far, she's made two stink bombs, both of which went off in Gregory's tent, and a bomb that didn't go off. Apparently there was even shrapnel inside of it, and I can't figure out if I wish it had worked or not. Hopefully she'll get better at making bombs so that we can use them in the upcoming war.
And hopefully by then Elizabeth will be done her medical training. That girl barely leaves Jared's side; he's always teaching her something new. There's a lot to learn, and he's got all the information there is. Even now, they sit together on a log, talking.
Or at least they were half an hour ago. Now they've disappeared, off to who knows where?
Instead on the log sits Walela. She turns her bloody head towards me. Her finger goes to her lips, before I watch her crumble down.
I blink and she's gone.
My hand has almost healed now, which is a nice development. Otherwise, I would be screwed. It was about to get to the point where I'd ask Peter for help. Unfortunately, he has been AWAL for the last day or too.
And I'd know, I sleep in his bed.
"Charlotte." Jared runs up to me, panting. "Elizabeth has gone missing."
I scoff. "They've all ran away before. They'll be fine."
"Elizabeth isn't like those other girls." He tells me. "From what I can gather she hates them. She said something about them cocking-up? I'm not exactly sure-"
"Listen, Jared." I tell him. "I get you're concerned, but don't worry-"
He shakes his head, running a hand through his ginger hair. There's no use panicking. Worrying won't bring back Elizabeth, only time will. Besides, we are the only things that live on this island, so there is no way that someone has taken them, unless it was Gregory for some crazy reason. Otherwise, none of the girls have stepped on anybody's toes.
"They will probably be back by sun rise." I say. I think it's night anyway. Or maybe the sun is going to rise really soon. I've stopped keeping track.
"I saw someone drag her off into the forest." He tells me.
That throws a wrench in the plan. I turn around, leaving Jared behind. If he had opened the conversation with that, then I would've been more inclined to believe him. Unfortunately, we've already wasted time.
