CHAPTER THREE
❛ ISAAC LAHEY ❜"I don't have time to talk about it." Morning had broken and the cold twist of winter was coming upon them as the two siblings rushed through the hallways of Beacon Hills High, the older brother feeling lost as students blurred his vision and his sister was fading in and out of his directory. Only after Katerina had dropped the pair off before going off to her shift as an intern in the hospital did Leo finally find Roman rushing into the school with a distressed look displayed on her features with no time to let words spill out in order to provide context to her actions and explain why she was so bothered. "I just have to find him and make sure I didn't do something stupid ... or completely reckless ... or both. How could I have done something so stupid and reckless?"
Leo's brows would only furrow further as he listened to her mumbles, often being interrupted by the mutters of other students that brushed past her. It was only when they had reached the top of the stairs when Leo had grabbed his sister's wrist to rip her out of her train of thought and derail her attention to him -- the person who, at the most, just wanted to help and put her at ease, something that she wasn't in showing through and through in her worrisome state. "Nia, I can't help you until you tell me what you did. You wake up screaming just a few hours ago and you tell me to forget about it. Then you don't speak at breakfast and drain Katerina of the little energy she had Mom and Dad and apologise, even though she told you not to worry about it. And now this? Are you ever going to let us know what's going on inside that head of yours?"
To be frank, what he was saying was only partially true from his own point of view. He hadn't been inside that dream to experience her perceive an alternative memory of the party a few days ago. Neither had he been inside that dream to watch as she nimbly wrapped her fingers around his pale and frail neck, letting him suffocate under her hold until his body fell slump in her hands. To say that it was painful would be an understatement. It had physically hurt to watch the lids of his eyes droop to a close and his skin to eventually grown cold with every minute that she spent, pushing chest compressions onto his body and blowing air into his lungs. Only when he had let out a scream did she wake up, letting out a similar sound that Leo had heard -- leading him to asking this question in this conversation.
"I'm afraid that I did something really stupid to Isaac. I tried calling him after I brushed my teeth but he wasn't answering his phone..."
"His phone could be dead?" Leo suggested but he was met with a glare. "Not helping. Sorry."
At this point, they were walking side by side onto the second floor, filled with a lot less people bringing out books for their next period, speaking of which he hasn't done yet. "I thought of that. But the thing is, I've started to notice that he doesn't have his eyes off his phone which means that he either doesn't have it turned on or he's lost it. Then I tried asking around, hoping that Autumn had seen him because they're childhood friends. She says that she hasn't seen him at his locker yet but suggests that he may be at the library which is where ..."
