CHAPTER FOURTEEN
HEART RATEThe meaning of 'lunch' definitely varied from person to person. Some may think of it as an invitation to a restaurant from twelve to one, others use it as a name to disguise themselves from being questioned why they were devouring edibles at two thirty. Autumn says that it's purely made for the intention of eating but that wasn't in earshot of Stiles Stilinski, busy scavenging through the many useless objects and miscellaneous items that were hidden in Coach Finstock's office.
If you're wondering what happened next, then imagine the same teenage girl stood behind Lahey's locker, pushing her hands into the comfort of her coat. Awkward considering that she couldn't truly look Roman in the eyes. She was undeniably her new target that she now had to keep an eye on, since she knew things that others didn't. And that information didn't need to be exposed to any other people who she had grown close to. One of them being Isaac.
You would think that after everything she's done for her or rather the way she has acted around her, would make her more susceptible to falling out of place. Autumn was a sarcastically driven, introverted person. She would often remain quiet in most situations where it didn't concern her and would prefer staying at home on her own compared to being pushed out of her comfort zone, into parties that would burn her nose from the overdue wine.
Her trust for Roman was slowly narrowing and she knew that there wouldn't be a lot of time left until she would snap.
As for Isaac, she knew that regardless of how many times she would reject the idea, she did have feelings for him. There was something in his reserved character that intrigued Roman — not only because his awkwardness was a quirky attribute that just added to his dork-like nature.
She would watch them during lunch, sharing notes after class or perhaps gnawing on the carrot sticks that Leo had forced her to buy. She was an active vegetarian unlike her pescatarian brother, so leading him on a vegetable based diet was all she could do when she wasn't busy trying to force down an entire year's worth of a subject syllabus.
Her presence initially surprised the tall, blue eyed boy but he quickly recovers himself, scratching his scalp with a nervous hand.
"Can I ask you a favour? Because I was going to wait until after class to see if you were okay with it, but I decided that it's a better time than never to ask now."
"Sure," he closes the door of his locker and leans against it, using the closest arm to the cold metal to balance himself. "Ask away."
She draws out a rolled sheet of paper from the depths of her school bag, hidden in between broken hair ties and lip balms. "I didn't do so well in my Maths exam. Stuff has been happening and my brother isn't very resourceful when it comes to Maths. I was wondering whether you could tutor me? I can't ask Stiles for umm ..... personal reasons."
"What about Roman?" He asks. "She came to tell me that she didn't 'fail' her algebra test since she was so convinced that she would. I'm sure she could help."
"Roman is busy with her family after school. She doesn't like giving that time up," Autumn responds quickly.
"Well if that's even going to be okay with my dad....." She could sense his hesitation. "I'll try get back to you later in the day." And so he rushes off to his next lesson: History by the looks of it.
***
Lunch wasn't as eventful as she had hoped for it to be. Where there was fun, boredom would have to follow it. Boredom came in the form of Lydia Martin, natural wonder and convinietly the embodiment of that said boredom.
