"Think of it, Jose," Alexander motions to the sky with his hands, his back against a comfy blanket on the cool, green grass. "All of those stars don't exist anymore. Those lights are from... forever ago, but they still shine for us to see today."

"That's pretty interesting."

"Not interesting," Alexander corrects. "It's fascinating."

"Maybe you should be an astronaut when you grow up," his best friend suggests. "If you love something so much, you take it. I can definitely see you living in the sky."

"I couldn't do that, Josie," Alex admits, turning to face her on thr blanket.

"Why not?" She began to blush. Is he thinking what I think he's thinking?

"Because..." his voice drifts in contemplation; she hangs onto every word. "It's just... so far away."

"So is Florida, but you still went there," Josie teases, trying to lighten the mood. Alex chuckles to himself.

"Well, that was before-" he cuts himself off. Why couldn't I just say it?

"Before what, Alex?" Her voice is gentle and assuring. She turns to face him as well and places a hand over his. "Do you trust me?"

Alex chuckles to himself again. They always seem to quote that one Disney movie to each other any chance they have. It is kind of their thing.

"Of course I do," he replies, straightening his face to seem more serious. "I'm just saying that it would be hard to... be so far away from you."

He graces for impact. He closes his eyes, prepared for the blow. Will she reject him? Will she think that he's being silly?

But it was none of that.

Instead, she giggles.

"You gotta stop doing that."

"What?"

"Saying things that make me wanna kiss you."

He is stunned for a moment, as she leans over and kisses him on the cheek.

After thirteen years of friendship, Josie has finally taken the first step. No longer were they childhood friends who would hang out in tree houses together or play in the mud.

Now, it's something much more than that.

Josie giggles again. "You act as if you've been struck by lightning or something."

Alex shakes his head. "That's because..." He attempts at a viable excuse, but it's no use. "You. Are. Electrifying."

Her smile only grows wider, baring her pearly white teeth.

Alex wraps an arm around her and she places her head on his chest, memorizing his heart beat.

"Took you long enough!" A familiar voice calls out from the back porch.

Josie giggles. "Don't listen to Dad."

Alex scoffs. "No," he tells Josie, causing her to lift her head towards him, "he's right." He stares up at the sky, "You know, we are kinda like stars. We live, love, and then we die, but when we die, it isn't the end. Our love is still there, visable for everyone else to see and enjoy."

Josie's face falls, not in sadness, but in inspiration. Staring down at his lips, she leans forward once again, turning her head to the side.

This time he holds her in his arms, not wanting to let go.

Afterwards, they stare back at each other for a moment. Josie is the one to break the tension, laying her head back on his chest.

He feels her laughing against him.

"What's so funny?" Alex has to ask.

"Oh, nothing," he sees her lying through her teeth as she glances up at him. "I'm just realizing that I won't be able to sleep tonight."
