Show Me The Future, Or The Past

Chapter 7

Naruto and Slay had met up the next day to go over everything. The trail had gone cold and Slay's brother was gone with the wind. He will no doubt turn up again, but until that time no one could do anything but wait.

"So," Naruto asked as they both enjoyed some tea at a restaurant. "Why did Slay attack Zabuza? What was the point?"

"He needs to absorb chakra." Slay told Naruto as he took a sip of tea. "Us gods don't regenerate chakra. Instead we drink it from a pool in the realm of Gods. Sense my brother can't return with what chakra he has he must get his elsewhere."

"So he's like a vampire?" Naruto continued. "He drains people of their chakra?"

"Not by biting their necks, but yes."

Drinking some tea Naruto thought about possible targets. Anyone with abnormal chakra would be targeted, and there were many like that. As the last bits of tea filled Naruto's mouth Naruto noticed Slay playing with an orb similar to Naruto's only red.

"What's that?"

Slay looked up and smiled. He held the orb out and Naruto took it. As he took it sudden images moved through his mind. Then when everything stopped he was in front of two boys, twins. They were laughing and playing without a care in the word. Before Naruto could say anything he was pulled back to reality.

"W-what was that?" Naruto asked surprised by it all.

"A fake world of my own making." Slay said. "A world me and my brother could live in and remain close."

"You still care about your brother?"

"Of course," Slay replied. "I always have. He looked out for me, cared for me, but then he was stolen of his right as older brother."

The story wasn't new to Naruto. Something similar had happened many years ago with two brothers who would later fight great battles between them and their followers. The fighting would last until the First Hokage brought the clans to peace.

All was quiet now and for the rest of the day Naruto's orb showed nothing on Slay's brother. Returning home Naruto wondered why his life was never normal. First he was a Jinchuriki, then a ninja, and now a world defender against a crazy god. Part of him wished he could just marry Hinata, start a family, and live a normal life as a shop owner or something.

Naruto quickly shook the thoughts out of his head and keep his mind focused. He couldn't wish such things. This was how things were meant to be. As Naruto arrived home Hinata was standing at his door.

"What are you doing here?" Naruto asked.

"Shikamaru asked me to give you some books." Hinata said holding a bag full of books on math, history, and more. "He said the future Hokage needs to study a lot."

"He works me like a horse." Naruto laughed opening the door letting Hinata inside. "Worries about me like a mother too."

"He's a loyal friend." Hinata added. "Just like Sasuke."

"Yeah." Naruto replied taking a seat on his bed. Naruto still lived in his child hood home that was to small to hold both a couch and bed. Hinata joined Naruto and laid her head on his shoulder.

"You look troubled." Hinata stated scanning her boyfriend with her lavender eyes. "What's eating you?"

"Nothing for you to worry about." Her lover said placing his lips on hers.

"Even if you say not to I will." The Hyuga girl replied as Naruto drew away. Sighing Naruto explained his feelings. With all the weird things in his life how could he ever hope to live anything close to a normal life with Hinata and their future children.

Hinata listened and understood Naruto completely. She had once thought that when she was still living with her father. It was still just a crush back then, but she wanted to be close with Naruto. How could she do that being heir to one of the strongest clans in the village. Luckily things changed and she was allowed to be with the man she loved.

"You just need to keep moving forward." Hinata said wrapping Naruto's hand in her own. "No one really lives a normal life. What would you consider normal anyway?"

"I see what you mean." The blonde ninja smiled feeling a little better. "Why don't I walk you home? It will be getting dark soon seeing as winter's around the corner."

Naruto got up and  walked to the door. He took a red scarf off it's hook and placed it around his neck. Turning to Hinata he noticed she was getting red.

"What's wrong Hinata?" Naruto asked placing his hand on her head to see if she was hot. "Are you felling okay?"

"Y-you still have my s-scarf?" Hinata asked.

Naruto paused for a second not understanding and then looked back at the old red piece of clothing. When Hinata had made it she had made it to long. Now years later Naruto could wear it with out having to wrap it over and over again. Smiling to himself as he thought of the day she gave it to him. Naruto tightened the old thing around his neck.

"Of course I still have it." Naruto said kissing Hinata's forehead. "It still fits and it was a gift from you. Now why don't we start for Ino's."

"Actually," Hinata said undoing the scarf around Naruto's neck. "I wanted to stay with you. Your finally back and I have no idea when you'll leave again, so i wanted to-"

"You don't need to explain yourself." Naruto said putting his hand up. "I'll gladly take the floor if you want to spend the night."

"You don't have to," Hinata protested. "The bed's big enough for two."

Naruto hesitated at first but gave in seeing Hinata wouldn't take no for an answer. With in minutes after Hinata's decision to stay darkness had fallen and arriving with it was first snow. They both watch the large white flakes dance in the night sky. It was a beautiful sight and then it hit Naruto. The reason he didn't have a normal life like other people was to protect those people. Let them have normal lives to enjoys sights like fresh falling snow. No matter what Naruto would protect this image as well as those who would enjoy it.

The snow fell all Night as Hinata made dinner. With a new purpose Naruto dived into his studies and keep at it until dinner was ready. After they finished eating they both got ready and went to bed. They laid together a little embarrassed as this was their first time in the same bed. Naruto felt a little happier seeing as this was one of the few normal things he could do. Putting his arm around Hinata letting her head lay on his chest Naruto thought back to the threat he would one day face.

This was the whole reason he fought, to protect everything that brought him and others joy. As Hinata drifted into her dreams Naruto felt himself begin to do so. When ever the time came for Naruto to take on Slay's brother he would make him pay for threatening his world. With that Naruto followed Hinata into his land of dreams await the challenges ahead in the future as wells as a new world that would follow. A world, Naruto hoped, Brothers like Slay and his twin could liven and love one another.

Hey everyone here's the new chapter I've been putting off. Turns out getting ready for collage takes up a lot of time. I haven't even gotten out of High School and I have to do all this research on the schools I want to go to and the things I need. It's such a drag.
