Chapter 3-

I look through the door window and vegetation is everywhere. There is a crop field right

below me with some workers watering the soil. It looks just like the old times with the

sunshine lighting up the field and the trees.. But as I look closer the plants are moving,

swaying side to side.

"That's not possible!" I gasp.

"The plants? Yes their moving!" Conner uttered.

"But how?" I asked.

"The same way the people changed, the virus. But their less harmful, the only plant that

kills that we know of is the fly trap but they stand out, so hardly no one gets killed."

I stood there eyes wide and breathless. Some of the leafs on the trees were purple and pink!!

As I looked even farther there was a dandelion garden in the distance. But it wasn't just any

dandelion garden, the flowers were at least five feet high. The trees were enormous too!

"This is.....amazing!" I said.

Conner smiled at me and opened the door and teased,"Ladies first."

I rolled my eyes and stepped through noticing that the sky was a light pink. Conner started

laughing,"Just walk." I giggled and started down the stairs.

"We have really good security, so there's nothing to worry about. We settled in a old hotel . It

has a electric fence which still works so we are pretty lucky. One of the books

upstairs said that President Bush stayed here so.......that explains the fence." Conner added

and shrugged his shoulders.

"That's pretty lucky." I said.

"Yah we were lucky to come across this place."

As I reached the bottom of the steps Conner lead me toward the felid.

"Hay charlie!" Conner yelled.

"Sup dude," Charlie replied.

"Charlie's the grower, we'll one of them. He plants and digs. That's one of the jobs!" Conner

explained. As we walk past the field I see all the workers stop to look at me. I glance at

Conner and he shrugs his shoulders. Some of the guys are smiling and winking at me.

I didn't even realize I was blushing when Conner said, "your turning red, like a tomato!"

He bursted into laughing and I hit him in the shoulder.

"Wow, that really hurt!" He cried.

I rolled my eyes at him and he started to laugh even harder. I don't understand why I'm

getting so much attention since I got here.

We reach the end of the field and stop by a

tree. We sit down and look at the leafs, which are pink with red veins. As I examined the leaf

Conner nudged me in the shoulder and ripped the leaf he was holding in half. As soon

as the wound hit the air it turned black and crumbled to the ground.

"Ever since the virus hit, the vegetation has gotten human like features. Pretty crazy!" He said

nodding toward the leaf.

I just stood there staring at the black leaf. It all just doesn't make sense. I clear my throat

and ask," Conner who was that boy that saved me?"

Conner looked at me and gave me a worried look. I could tell he was deciding to tell me or

not. Finally he said,"That was Liz's brother Aiden. He was a traveler like me. We were

assigned to go on a mission to explore the city. We were walking in the halls when we heard

running and a girl screaming. Aiden looked at me and I knew what the plan was imminently.

So he threw you into my arms and died for it." Conner stopped smiling and started to play

with his hands. "He never liked it here anyways, he was always somewhere else."

"I'm sorry." I whispered.

"He would have been happy to see you safe." He sighed. I can't believe someone would put

their life in danger or worse die to save me. Suddenly I felt a rush of guilt run through my

body and I felt like I was going to cry. Just as I closed my eyes I heard screaming.

"Conner! Conner! We have an emergency at the barn!!!" Liz yells as she runs towards us.

"Oah god!" He gets up and reaches for my hand and tugs me up. "Follow me."

We both sprint toward a wooden barn with chipped red paint. It obviously hasn't been

scrubbed in years. As we enter the doors I hear a high pitch screeching noise. Definitely not

human like. I cover my ears and everyone else does too.

"Shoot!" Conner yells.

Some guys rush behind us and push through the crowd into the doors. Conner follows them and

when I step forward to take a look Conner pushes me back, "you can't see this," and turns back to

enter. Liz comes to me and yanks my arm.

"Common, I'll tell you!" She shrikes.
