May 12th, 2017. 3:00 PM.

The police car slowed to a stop in front of the house. Brandon Landesky checked the address from the passenger seat, then looked back at the house. Then he turned to Jack. "You sure this is the right one? Doesn't look like anyone's home."

Lane frowned. "Andrew Delaney, 25143 Avondale Parkway. Computer geek employed at AutoExpress. He's probably holed up in his basement."

"Wouldn't he at least leave some lights on?"

"Not if he was involved in the bombing and didn't want to be found." Jack got out of the car and readied his Glock. "Two more employees to go. Let's take our time."

Brandon sighed and got out his own gun, walking up to the door and knocking. "Mr. Delaney! It's the police. We're here to ask you some questions!"

Half a minute later, a short man with curly hair and glasses answered. "It's me. Uh, come in!"

Landesky and Lane stood by the wall while Delaney nervously sat in front of them and turned on the lights. "So, uh, what do you need to ask?"

Lane's frown deepened. Definitely suspicious. Nervous, too. "Where were you Wednesday night, around ten o'clock?"

"Sleeping."

"Did you see anyone suspicious before you went to bed? Did you hear anything?"

"Nope."

"Can anyone confirm your whereabouts?"

"My mom."

"And where is she?"

"In Heaven." Delaney cracked a small smile as a tear rolled down his cheek. "She said she'd always watch over me after she died."

Lane wasn't buying his story. But this line of questioning was clearly going nowhere, so he switched tactics. "You were earlier employed as a software engineer. Why'd you switch to a cashier position at a car dealer... Three weeks before the place blew up?"

Delaney paled, then shook his head. "That's a coincidence. There were two new guys between when I joined and Wednesday--"

The window exploded in a hailstorm of glass. Delaney fell to the ground, blood oozing from a hole in his temple. A little black ball flew through the now-shattered window and rolled to a stop at the corpse's feet.

And then the house blew up.
