The Westshire Law Museum was engulfed in an unholy ball of flame when I slowed to a stop beside the police barricade. A police barricade surrounding a law museum -- who would've thought? The ensemble also included two fire trucks, three squad cars and a ton of bystanders. There were policemen shouting through megaphones and holding nightsticks, warding off anyone who got too close.

I got out of the car and looked around, spotting Jack and walking towards him. "What the heck happened here?"

He finished his conversation with another man and sighed. "Blew up. That guy was interviewing the night staff; nobody came in or out in the last two hours."

"Maybe this guy came earlier in the day."

He nodded. "The museum has its security camera tapes backed up to the cloud. I called Brandon already. I doubt this guy checked in on a visitor log or looked straight at the cameras, though -- hold up."

Jack walked away to answer his phone, and I looked back at my car. I'd left Ross in the passenger seat because even though it was past bedtime, I didn't want to leave him home alone. He was asleep again, head resting against the seatbelt.

"Alright, thanks." Lane turned back to me. "We interviewed another night guard. He said around ten o'clock, the fuses blew. He went to check it out, turned them back on, and the place erupted."

"They wouldn't have hired another technician after Delaney, so either one of these guys is technically experienced--"

"Or he knew the museum." He waved to a female officer nearby. "Angela! Check out ex-employees, especially people with access to fuse boxes!"

"What are you thinking?" I asked.

"I'm thinking this is personal, and that one of those people is one of the guys on that drive-by shooting."

I nodded. "Okay. Oh, I got on the phone with Monica."

"Who is...?"

"The friend from that real-estate agency who owned the house I dropped the package off at. We're meeting tomorrow. Um..."

"Sounds great. Um?"

"Never mind." I turned to walk back to my car. "I'll call you."

(I didn't realize how short this was. It's at least half as many words as the other chapters!)
