Chapter Five

Eleanor's POV

"El, come on." Niall whispers in my ear.

"I can't exactly go hiking in a mini skirt." I roll my eyes.

"Go change." He says in a 'duh' tone.

I slowly pull myself off the couch and head to my room.

I unzip the navy blue dress and tear it off. I search my closet, finding a pair of ripped jeans and a black sweater. I quickly pull them on, my feet getting caught in the holes in my pants. I fix it in a hurried fashion and slip my combat boots back on as well.

I half bolt, half gallop down the stairs, and loop my arm around Niall's. Pulling him off of the couch, we walk past the people and into the chilly afternoon air.

Together we speed walk past all the houses lined up along the concrete road, which is hardly ever used. He pulls me into the forest, and we hoist ourselves into a tree. Our tree.

We came here when we were little, claiming this tree to be ours. We would visit the old oak every day, having races and competitions to see who the best climber was. I always beat him, but he was never too far behind.

"Okay, well, why did you drag me into a forest?" I ask.

"It doesn't have 50 people in it, unlike your house." He explains.

Why didn't he just tell me there? So what if people heard?

"I pulled you out here so not everyone knew who your soul mate is. It's your decision if you want them to hear or not."

I consider this for a minute.

"Niall, I don't even want to know. Can't I find out on my own?" I sigh.

I don't want his help. That would make everything awkward. I want to find out on my own. I want to be in a relationship because I want to, not because our ankles share the same image.

Niall's POV

She grabs my hand, pulling me out of the tree. We walk in the opposite direction we came from.

"Where are we going?" I wonder aloud.

"You'll see." She happily replies.

She bounces along the path.

I stare down at our feet, then up at the sky. It's around 5:00, and the sky is still a light blue.

After five minutes of walking on a barely visible trail, Eleanor stops. I look ahead to see where she ended up taking me, with no such luck of finding out.

"We're not there yet, keep walking."

We take a left, then a right.

The sun starts to go down a bit in the sky, and I run into a tree while gazing at the sky.

"You have arrived at your destination." She giggle in an accent.

"In front of a tree?" I ask.

"No, dumbass. Over there." She points forwards, and my eyes follow her hand.

"Woah. Since when has this been here?"

She cocks her head to the side and rubs her chin.

"Hmm.. Forever?" She guesses.

"I wonder why I've never seen it."

"'Cos you're a lazy bum and wouldn't go this far into the woods."
