Letters to Romeo, Juliet, And Shakespeare
Part II: Letters to Juliet
Dear Juliet
You are a character in a play/book/movie
So why are you real?
-
You're not real in the sense
That you randomly showed up out of a book
No
You're real because I'm you
And you are me
-
You, Juliet, are my second persona
-
The minute I joined that play
I was stuck with you in my body
Forever
-
Why did I have to be Juliet, out of all characters?
I was in sixth grade
For Heaven's sake
-
I experienced the love you felt for Romeo
But I also experienced hatred of him
-
In your story
You were treated like a lady
And the guys seemed somewhat
Like gentlemen
-
In my story
Romeo and I argued
And the Friar hit me
-
I don't get why
I had to be you, of all characters
-
I mean
I always pictured you with black hair and brown eyes and white skin
-
I don't look like I could be you
Except maybe the brown eyes
But other than that
-
I don't look like a girl
Whose alter-ego just so happens
To be Juliet freaking Capulet!
-
Our stories are quite similar
Yet so different
-
Our Romeos are an interesting pair
But that's a story for later
-
Juliet my dear,
You don't belong in these poems
But if we're the same person
You just have to sit back and watch the show.
-
Juliet, please tell me what drove you
So mad about your beloved Romeo?
