Apocalypse Dance

This is based off something I saw on Tumblr - I'd show you now but I don't want to spoil the mood of the oneshot.

Imagine your OTP (doesn't necessarily have to be romantic)

Two lone figures stood together in the middle of a barren field, the result of an ongoing apocalypse. Their bodies were connected, swaying together to the beat of unheard music. The elder's face was one of sorrow as they knew that this would be the last time they would have a moment like this.

Leaning closer to the other, they started quietly singing.

"You are my sunshine."

The younger gasped as they recognised the song.

"My only sunshine."

They smiled, hugging their partner closer. The elder seemed to stiffen at this.

"You make me happy..."

The younger frowned, trying to turn to their partner to see what was wrong. They could not.

"When skies are grey."

Deciding not to dwell on that, they let themselves relax into the song.

"You'll never know dear..."

They closed their eyes and leaned their head on the elder's shoulder, not noticing their partner moving their arm.

"How much I...love you."

The younger chuckled softly, knowing that the older really cared for them. They felt the same way back.

"Please don't take my sunshine away..."

The younger joined in singing the last line.

"Please don't take..."

The elder pulled their gun from the holster at their hip...

"...My sunshine..."

...Placing it where the infection was worst.

"...Away."

BANG!

Tears fell like raindrops onto the floor of the wasteland as a lone survivor gripped the body of their dead partner in their arms. The deadly infection was quickly taking over the body's head and chest but the survivor didn't care.

They didn't care.

Quick question. Who died? And who was left alone in the barren wasteland of death and destruction? I just want to know...:)
