Rides & Roller Coasters Part One

"So, where are we going next?" Ally asked.

"Good question," Austin said.

"How about we go to . . . I have nothing," Dez said.

"Father, you said we could go to Museum of Science and Industry. Can we go there now?" Darrie asked pleadingly.

"That's in Chicago and we're still in Miami," Dez said slowly, like Darrie couldn't understand him.

"Oh," is all Darrie could muster. "Okay."

He stared at the ground in sadness. Magnolia Rose put a hand on his shoulder and his mouth curved into a smile. "We should go to the Universal Studios."

"Great idea!" Alex said and Ava nodded enthusiastically.

"Magnolia, you are amazing!" Trish told her daughter and Magnolia grinned.

"Wouldn't we have to like make a reservation?" Alex asked.

"Nah," Austin said. "We're famous. They'll let us in."

"We would also have to pay," Alex informed him. "How would we do that?"

"Oh, uh . . .," Austin said.

"I might have a friend who works there," Trish said.

"Who?" Ally asked.

"Jace."

"Him?" Dez asked quickly. "Cool guy," he covered his outburst. "Why is he working there?"

"He quit doing tricks with his skateboard after he nearly broke his back," Trish informed them.

"I didn't know you were still talking to him," Austin told her.

"No one does," she said. "Or did at least."

"Who's Jace?" Magnolia asked.

"An old friend," Trish replied.

"Maybe he could get us in for free."

"We'll see," Austin said and noticed Dez's unusual quietness.

"Do you want to call him?" Ally asked Trish.

"Sure." She grabbed her phone and dialed a number. "Hey Jace." She waited for about a minute before saying, "Could you do me a favor?" She waited again. "Can you get us into Universal for free?" Another pause. "Thank you so much Jace. You're a life saver!"

She hung up the phone and grinned at everyone. "We're getting into Universal Studios today!"

A chorus of cheers rang out. "Someone tell the driver that we're going there," Austin said.

"Trish and I will," Ally said. The two woman walked up to front of the bus. "Dad, could you drive us to Universal Studios?" Ally asked when they got there.

"Sure," he said. "Anything for my sweetheart."

Back at the seats, Austin asked Dez, "What was that outburst for?"

"It was nothing," Dez told him.

"You sure?" Austin raised his eyebrows as he asked this question.

All Dez did was nod.

The girls came back to the back of the bus where everyone was and their trip started.

"Are we there yet?" Magnolia Rose asked yet again.

"Not there quite yet honey," Trish told her daughter. "In like fifteen minutes."

"Really?" Magnolia asked in surprise.

"Not really. Probably another hour or so," Trish said and grinned at Magnolia's face.

Darrie watched his father as he watched the scenery pass by. "Are you okay Father?" he asked after a while.

Dez jumped slightly but said, "Nothing is better. Why?"

"You just aren't . . . yourself," Darrie said. "You're not cracking any jokes or just being . . . you."

"Wanna hear a joke?" Dez suddenly said.

"Sure!"

"What do you call an alligator in a vest?"

"Father-"

"An investigator!" Dez said and started laughing at the joke.

Everyone started laughing because he was laughing.

Finally, they made it. "Hey guys!" someone yelled.

"Jace!" Trish said. Its so good to see you!"

"It is!" he said.

"I can't believe we're near Harry Potter land," Alex whispered to his sister.

"I know right!?" Ava whispered back.

Ally smiled at her kids. "So when are we going in?" Austin asked.

"At night," Jace confessed. "Since I can't get you in without my boss noticing now, it'll have to be tonight."

"At night?" Dez asked. "Will the rides even be on?"

"I'll turn them back on," Jace said.

"I don't know," Ally said nervously.  "What if we get in trouble?"

"Ah, we won't get in trouble," Jace said. "I've done it before."

"Have they caught you?"

"No."

The four looked at each other. "Okay," Dez said, surprising everyone.

"You sure?" Austin asked.

"Yup," Trish said. "Let's do it!"
