They were still in the infirmary together, the only difference was that Jace was asleep and Clary was wrapped tightly in his arms. Clary could feel him waking up so she moved aside to give him a little space. It didn't matter because Jace just pulled her back into his arms again, her back against his warm stomach.
"I love you." Jace whispered into her ear.
"I love you, too." Clary replied, smiling.
A voice came from the doorway, "Mind saving the 'I love you's for another time," Alec. "Mom wants to see you in the library. Both of you."
Clary looked at Jace expecting to see him with a sarcastic look on his face, but instead he wore a look she had never seen before: worry and concern.
Clary removed herself from his embrace as he began to slowly sit up. Once he was standing, she reached for his hand, locking her fingers with his.
"I'm sure everything is fine." she said, looking at him.
"And what if it's not?" he replied. "What if it's about Sebastian?"
Clary didn't know how to reply, so she stopped and turned toward Jace, going up on her tip toes to kiss him. Jace brought his free hand up to cup the side of her face as they kissed. She felt the little ping of electricity. She could get used to that. Clary slowly stopped the kiss and turned back so she was at his side. They walked hand in hand to the library, stopping when they saw Maryse and Brother Zacariah.
"What's going on?" Jace asked, staring at Maryse.
Maryse didn't look mad or angry, but scared. Clary had never seen Maryse look so scared. It worried her.
Jace Herondale, how are you feeling? Brother Zacariah spoke in Jace's mind.
"Fine," Jace replied, flatly. "Why did you want to meet us here?"
Maryse tried to hide the shaking in her voice, but she failed, "We have received something from Jonathon Morgenstern."
"What is it?" Clary asked, clearly nervous to find out what it was.
"It was a pair of angel wings with a note attached."
"What did the note say?" Jace asked.
Erchomai, Brother Zacariah spoke in all their minds.
"I am coming." Jace mumbled under his breath, clearly nervous.
Clary looked up at him, "When did you find these? It can give us an idea of when he is coming."
"We found it about a half hour ago. So he could already be in the building, or on his way here, or just trying to throw us off. It could be anytime really."
"We must be prepared at all times," Jace said, his voice slightly hoarse. "He could show up at anytime. He could be prepared with anything or anyone. Until we know exactly when, Clary will be staying here, for her own safety. Somebody should let Jocelyn know."
"I'll talk to her," Clary's voice echoed in the large library. "She is my mom. I should be the one to tell her."
"Okay." Jace said, his voice whisper soft. He leaned down and planted a kiss on the top of Clary's head and whispered, "You can stay in my room if you want."
Clary nodded, "That would make me feel safer."
"I will go get a room ready for Clary," Maryse said. She then turned to look at Clary. "I will get Isabelle to help set up your room the way you want it. Since you may be here a while, might else make it feel like home."
"I thought she could stay in my room." Jace said, trying to sound as clear as possible. "She would be a lot safer if she is in the same room as me where I can reach her if there's something wrong."
"Oh, Jace," Maryse said, sounded concerned. "I don't-"
"It's the only way to keep her as safe as possible. I'm sure Jocelyn will understand when it comes to her daughter's safety."
"I wouldn't be so sure. She may just have her stay in a room close to yours, but she will never allow you and Clary to stay in the same room together."
"I will talk to Jocelyn myself if I have to. If it means choosing between getting in trouble with my girlfriend's mother or losing her to her sick-minded psychopath brother forever, I'm willing to take the chance of getting in trouble. I'm not going to lose her."
Clary looked up at him and smiled. She knew that once she told her mom she would be staying in Jace's room, all hell would break loose. She also knew she had a slim chance of winning the argument her and her mom would have over the matter.
"Fine," Maryse said, her voice ringing through the library. "She can stay in your room. But if I hear of you guys doing anything other than sleeping, I will not hear the end of it from Jocelyn, meaning you will not hear the end of it from me. Also, Clary would not be allowed here, in the Institute, ever again."
"Okay." Jace said, smiling the biggest smile Clary had ever seen. "You won't. I promise."
He then looked over at Alec as if to say, Keep your mouth shut or I will kick your ass. Alec just nodded and looked down to avoid Jace is evil stare. Clary had to cover her mouth to stifle a giggle.
"Okay, Clary." Maryse said, smiling. "I think you should go to see your mom to talk to her and get some of your things. Jace can go with you to talk with your mom about staying in his room."
"Alright," he said, smiling. "Let's go."
"I don't think we will win the battle we are about to have with my mom."
"I think we will. We just have to make sure she knows its for your safety, not just because you want to sleep next to your smoking-hot boyfriend every night."
Clary looked up at him smiling and shaking her head. "I can't believe you just said that about yourself."
"Your not disagreeing, though. So I think you think I'm smoking-hot."
"No, I'm not disagreeing." She said smiling and leaning up to kiss him.
