Leafpaw woke with a start. She glanced around the unfamiliar place with her eyes still blurred from sleep.
Where am I?
Soon, her eyes slowly began to focus. She remembered where she was and sighed with relief. The cold stone cave walls still felt like unfamiliar teritory to Leafpaw.
She sighed and rested her head on her paws while she tried with all her might to remember what happened the night before.
It had all passed by in a blur. Birchkit almost dying, the Tribe cats finding them and saving Birchkit, being brought back to the Tribe's camp, Crowfeather's warrior cerimony... ugh.
The memories made her head spin and stomach lurch.
Leafpaw rose gingerly to her paws and began her morning routene. She licked her paws and drew them over her face and ears before lifting one of her hind legs to wash the underside of it. She repeated this process until she was thoroughly clean before stepping out of the minature den she had been sharing with her mentor, Cinderpelt, the night before.
Once she stepped into the main part of the cave she found, to her surprise, only two other cats awake. One being Crag and the other being a beautiful, sleek furred she-cat named Night. Night and Crag were speaking with their heads close together.
Suddenly, without warning, Leafpaw's stomach flushed with a new, strange feeling. It couldn't be jelousy could it? Of course not. She'd only met Crag one night ago. For all she knew he could have just been being polite when he'd offered to share prey with her. Or when he sought her out to sit with her while Crowfeather had his warrior cerimony. Perhaps he was mates with Night and she was the one that should be jelous.
Crag looked up from the conversation he was having with Night and locked his eyes with Leafpaw's. She shuddered slightly. Then he got to his paws and padded over to Leafpaw, his pawsteps echoing around the cave.
He brushed ever so lightly against Leafpaw's side before whispering into her ear.
"I'm out on hunting duty today, I'll speak to you the moment I get back, I promise."
And with that he was gone. He slipped into one of the other dens only to reappear with three other cats trailing behind him. The group made their way towards the exit of the cave but Crag looked back to towards her before he left. Their eyes locked for a moment and then he was gone.
Notes:
Sorry for such a short chapter, I have school really soon. I promise the next chapter will be longer!
