" Mommy?"
" Yes baby" I responded as I continued to grab his bags
" When am I going to stop coming here?" He asked
I paused and looked at him. Afraid that I'll give him the wrong answer I continue to grab everything.
" Mommy, am I going to live with him?"
" No baby. You're just staying over here for a few hours"
" Everyday?"
" Yes. Everyday"
" After school?"
" Yep, after school"
After I responded he was silent for a second.I closed the trunk and prepared myself for the walk up the stairs.
" Mommy, can you stay this time? Please?" I sighed and begin to walk, He followed.
" I would love to Cam, but you need to build a bond with your dad" I said
" Like friends?"
" Yes, Like friends"
All these questions was getting on my nerves, but I can't get mad, he's just confused.
I knocked on his door and he answered immediately. I opened the door wide and we walked in. I sat his things down on the couch.
" Can you stay for one day? Pleeease?" He pouted " Just one day" I looked at Damien and he just shrugged.
" I guess you can stay, if you want."
" Alright" I smirked and sat down on the couch. Cameron walked over and sat on my lap.
" If I stay you can't be up under me okay?" I slid him over.
" Okay. Can I play with the web hands?" He asked
" You dont gotta ask just go in the back and play" once he said that Cam jumped up and jogged to the hallway that led to the back.
When he left, it was quiet and awkward. I notice that Damien was staring at me while I try to avoid looking at him. It was getting too uncomfortable so I decided to say something.
" What do you want?" I looked at him sideways
He smiled lightly " Nothing just wondering what you've been up to"
" Well I've been taking care and me and my child and having a wonderful life" I said in a sarcastic tone . There was a second of silence
" So you still in college?" He asked
" Mhm" I rolled my eyes and pulled out my phone.
" When are you graduating?"
" Why do you want to know?" I asked
" Just curious"
I huffed " I'll get my degree in two months"
" Oh"
I decided to text Sade.
" You cut your hair?" I snickered and continue to text.
" You ain't gotta be so rude, I'm just trying to start up a conversation"
" Im not here to start up a conversation, Im here to comfort my baby boy, something you wouldn't know how to do" after sending Sade a little rant of how I'm oh so annoyed right now, I sat my phone down
" If you supposed to be comforting him why ain't you back there with him?"
" Because I brought him over here so he can spend time with his father, not for me to occupy him while his father sits on his ass"
He huffed and hopped off the counter. As he walked to the back, Cameron ran into the living room with a Spider-Man mask and screaming.
" Quiet down Cam" I hushed
" Nah he's good. I don't mind the yelling" I rolled my eyes. I don't care about him, I was worrying about the neighbors.
After running around the coffee table making swoosh sounds, he ran back into the hallway and into the room. Shortly after, Cam came running to Damien and tugged on his sweatpants.
" Spider-Man's arm is broken" he held up a small Spider-Man arm
" Alright lemme see what I can do" he grabbed the arm and walked into the hall with Cam.
Two hours of awkward questions and staring was eventually over. By 9 Cam was sleep and I was on the edge of knocking out.
" Got everything?" He asked me while he watched me close Cameron's bag up
" Yeah" I put the bag straps on my shoulder and adjusted Cam on my hip. " We will see you tomorrow I guess"
" Alright" He opened the door and I walked out. He watched me go down the stairs then finally closed his door.I put everything in the car and begin to drive home.
My phone begin to ring when I reached our street. I looked down and seen that my dad's calling.
" Hey dad"
" Hey Justine, can you drop Cameron off here tonight, your mother really wants to see him" I sigh but agree
" I'll be there in a minute" I turned around and begin to drive to their house.
I pushed through the traffic and finally arrived. I unbuckle Cam's car seat and pick him up. I walk to the door and before I can even knock my dad opens the door.
" Hey baby how-"
" Cammy! Come over here and give your grandma a hug" my mom came rushing to the door
" Your mother missed him so much so she asked me to ask you to allow him to stay the night" I glance over at her hugging him and huff
" I was gonna drop him off here in the morning so you can take him to school since it's on your way but I guess he can stay"
I go to my car, grab all of his stuff and took it inside. I passed by my mom twice and yet again, nothing came out of her mouth.
" Alright, that's his stuff and if anything happens please call" I hug him and walk out the door.
As I drive home, my mom stale face rolled through my mind. Its been almost five years since she's talked to me. FIVE. I don't know what I ever did to hurt her. I've never seen my mom act so cold towards me.
I arrive at the house and I am oh so eager to lay down and sleep. I get in and turn on the light.
" Baby! I'm home!" I yell but no response
He's not home yet. I sigh and walk upstairs to the room.
10:47 and he's still not home? I pick up my phone and stare at my lock screen. There's no text or calls from him.
He's just working, of course he's not gonna have time to check up on me. Maybe..
I put my phone done and sit on the edge, waiting for home to arrive
