Jinx barked joyously and followed Draco back inside the castle. Draco glanced down at Jinx's wolf form numerous times; it was the first time he'd seen her like this since she arrived at Hogwarts. The wound on her side was healing and fur was beginning to grow back around it. He smiled genuinely at her as she padded along side of him.

Once back in the Slytherin common room, Draco checked to make sure they were alone. He assured Jinx that no one was around, and then in a second she was back to her human form. "Remind me again why you're trying to keep this secret?" Draco asked.

Jinx shrugged, "I just don't want people to know."

"Why not?" Draco pushed on.

But Jinx had learned quickly that as long as she stayed confident in her decisions around him, Draco would respect her privacy. "Because it's my little secret," she answered with a mischievous grin.

"Our little secret," Draco corrected. But once the words left his mouth, he realized just how strange they sounded. He had no intention of making a cute, even romantic, comment, he'd meant only to point out a fact.

But whatever he meant, both he and Jinx blushed madly and a long silence took them. After a while, Jinx burst out in laughter. Draco looked over at her in confused shock, "what's so funny?"

Jinx took a minute to calm herself down, then met Draco's eyes with a light smile, "absolutely nothing; but I've learned that laughter cures awkwardness."

Draco proceeded to look at the beautiful girl like she was insane, but he couldn't help melt under her gentle gaze. He was speechless. Just a few weeks ago, he never would've guessed a girl like Jinx existed; a girl who could make his mind go blank just with a simple smile.

The handsome teenager slowly approached Jinx. As he got closer, Jinx felt her heart beat pump harder and louder. She stood frozen in place as Draco moved closer, and closer, and closer. He finally came to a hault with just inches between their bodies.

He towered over Jinx as she looked up into his stormy eyes. Draco wasn't sure what had suddenly come over him, but he gladly welcomed the pleasant feeling into his soul. He lifted a hand and brushed her thick hair behind her shoulder. It felt warm and soft against his slender fingers. Jinx felt the cool air hit her neck, sending exhilarating chills through her body. And when he smiled his charming smile down at her, she felt as though her knees might give out.

"How is it," Draco spoke quietly, almost in a whisper, "that you make me feel like this?" His breath smelled like roses as it tickled her nose and lips. "I barely even know you, and yet..."

Jinx meant to reply; she meant to say something smooth and witty that would make them both smile. But all that came out of her mouth was a small, involuntary squeak.

A chuckle escaped Draco's mouth, but his eyes never left hers. "What was that?" He questioned sweetly as he tilted his head slightly to the side and leaned down the slightest bit.

"I-I.." Jinx stuttered, trailling off when she realized she had no idea what to say.

Again, Draco chuckled lightly and his grin widened. Within seconds he'd leaned all the way down and his lips pressed gently against Jinx's. Their eyes closed instinctively, and their lips fell so perfectly together. Draco's lips felt warm and shy to Jinx.

Draco let his arms pull Jinx against his body, her hands pressed flat against his chest. Her lips were icy and plush, sending a cooling sensation through his nerves.

After a few moments, their lips parted with a tiny suction noise and the two Slytherins stared into each other's eyes once again. Their noses touched slightly as they breathed in the same air, taking in the beauty of one another.

"Draco..." Jinx managed to say in a soft voice.

The boy smiled and gently took her left cheek in his right hand, his other arm still holding her close. He stroked her cheek with his thumb, such a shockily comforting gesture from the normally ruthless boy he was. And once again their lips connected, just as hesitantly as before. The kisses they shared were pure and innocent, as if they were made for each other.

And perhaps they were.

Jinx thought this as she let her feelings envelope her mind; could Draco be the one she'd been waiting for? Was this her soul mate? Would she finally be able to make right everything that she'd done wrong in her past?

Jinx pulled her lips from Draco's and looked into his eyes sadly. She'd lied to him. She wanted to tell him everything, all of the truth. She should have. But instead Jinx decided to wait. If only she'd known that this would become a mistake in the furture. She wanted only to enjoy this moment, and so she did. She let the truth and guilt slip away to enjoy the bliss of the present.

"Jinx," Draco began, his heart picking up speed as he prepared to explain his feelings, "I feel.." He trailed off with a light laugh.

Jinx smiled sweetly up at him and asked, "what are you laughing at?"

Draco saw his chance and quoted, "I've learned that laughter cures awkwardness." The two laughed and Jinx leaned her forehead against Draco's. He took a deep breath and spoke again, fully serious, "I feel..happy..with you....it's not something I felt very often before meeting you."

November 13, 1995

After Draco and Jinx shared their first romantic moment, the boy seemed to disappear; he was no where to be found. Although Jinx was worried, she knew that all she could do was wait for his return. So when Monday's classes ended, she was relieved to have magic as a distraction.

Everyone filed messily into The Room of Requirement, the door sealing itself behind them. Inside, magic began to erupt excitedly from every wand in the room as practice immediately began. Jinx, however, stood aside to watch on this day. A smile played on her face as she admired her friends' determination and devotion.

"Not in the mood for using magic?" A masculine voice questioned, startling Jinx out of her thoughts. Beside her, Harry had appeared from seemingly nowhere. "It's not like you to stand on the side like this," Harry continued, looking into Jinx's ocean blue eyes with concern, "are you alright?"

Jinx smiled calmly as she answered, "I'm fine, Harry. Just judging their progress."
