The pack all looked at me. I was worried, even scared. I didn't know how this pack would react if I said no to joining them. Would they tear me apart or would they keep me captive?
Think, think! I kept telling myself, but it wasn't that easy with 25 dogs staring at you from all directions. I growled softly. Stop staring at me like this is a decision of life or death you filthy mutts! I almost spat this out, but barely managed to control it. I couldn't help it that I had such a short temper.
Shadow seemed to have realized my grudge and dismissed the other dogs. "Half of you go out and guard the building," he announced then turn his head toward a pale, tan male dog with dark green eyes. "Ivy, pick out four groups of dogs to go hunting." Then Shadow narrowed his eyes. "And keep away from that despicable pack."
Ivy nodded and walked over toward the crack in the old building. Before he went through the hole he turned his head to look at Shadow. "You sure you want to be in here with this stray?" He asked glancing in my direction. I could already tell that this dog didn't like me.
Shadow narrowed his eyes again. "Ivy, you know very well I can handle a single dog." He said slowly.
Without thinking I angled my ears backward baring my teeth with a growl. "Are you trying to say that I'm weak?" I snarled. I couldn't help it, I had to let some of my anger out.
Shadows ears twitched. "I didn't say that you are weak at all. Why would I want you to join this pack in the first place?" I thought about that for a couple of moments. "When I was separated from my pack I once fought a group of wild dogs and defeated them alone."
I wasn't sure if I should believe this dog, but judging by his size and scars he may be telling the truth. That suddenly made me worried to argue with this dog. I sat down slowly. "Were they the 'Dark Whisperers'?" I asked with interest.
Shadow suddenly stood up and started to pace side to side for a long time. I stood my ground still prepared to fight if he decided to attack. He stopped pacing "I don't know who they were... all that I know is that their nothing compared the 'Dark Whisperers'," he said then started to pace side to side again. "You see, that was only about half of their pack we fought today..."
I completely froze with shock. What? Thats impossible, that's way to many dogs to handle, I thought. If we went to battle with their entire pack would we have made it out alive? I suddenly realized.
"Why," I said after a long moment. Shadow tip his head to the side confused. I stood up on all four legs. "Why did you save me? You could have died if that was the whole pack you know." I looked down at my paws. "Why risk your packs lives, for me?"
Shadow stared at me for a long time. "We need to risk everything we got to get new recruits no matter the circumsta-"
"But you're putting more lives in danger!" I barked cutting Shadow off. "Your gonna end up losing more dogs instead of gaining them!" Then I started to pace for a bit calming myself down.
Shadow did a long sigh. "It's a risk we're willing to take," he said. "This is the only chance we have to defeat them and take back land where they took all of our major food supply." He lashed his tail and growled. "If we don't take them down soon, they'll end up taking all the alleys for themselves and we'll all be forced to leave, or even worse, die."
I stopped pacing and looked down at my paws. Is he telling the truth? I wondered. If I was able to leave if I said no to joining the pack would I die anyways? I took I deep breath and stood tall. "Then Yes," I said firmly. "Yes, I will join your pack."
I think that from now on I'll add photos once in awhile since that it's difficult to find the right one... anyways I hope you liked this chapter.
