Chapter Ten; Standing Up

June woke up early the next morning to find the girls' dormitory blazing with winter sunlight, with a slight chill. She glared at the furnace in the middle of the room as though it wasn't doing its job. June moved from her bed towards the window to see a white blanket of shining snow. After watching the untouched blanket, she changed into a dark red heavy jumper, think gray leggings and placed her Gryffindor scarf folded into her jumper pocket. She pulled her hair into two twin braids, for she was too lazy to brush her hair.

Once dressed, she walking down the stairs into the common room. James, Ginny, and Maribelle sat on the couch, talking, June quickly joined them.

"Hey, guys," June smiled.

"Hey," James said, moving over to make room.

June took a seat beside him and joined the conversation. Every so often June was gaze out the window that the still untouched snow. James taped her shoulder after she missed a conversation cue.

"Where's your head at?" he asked, with a chuckle lacing his voice.

"Snow," she answered with the corner of her mouth tugging up a little.

"What? You wanna go out there?" Maribelle asked.

June then got an idea.

"Let's have a snowball fight," June suggested, a wide-smile played on her lips.

"Y'know what? Sure," James agreed.

"Yeah! Haven't been in one in a few years," said Ginny.

"Well, I can't be the only one who says no," Maribelle said.

The three quickly got changed into some warm clothes and they all grabbed their cloaks. Soon they were downstairs and out in the cold winter air. Their footprints wrecked the untouched snow. James suggested they be in teams, and Maribelle automatically chose to team up with Ginny leaving June with James. The games started with Maribelle hitting a tree rather then James who hadn't even tried to hid himself. June believed that James could hit anyone with his eyes closed. Ginny quickly got competitive and was matching James with skill, and well, June was just better the Maribelle.

Suddenly, James' voice rang out, "June, watch out!"

Ginny had thrown a snowball and hit June directly in the face. June shivered and spat out the snow that had made its way into her mouth.

"Oh my - that's fu - so cold!" June shouted as the snow made its way down the front of her shirt.

The three started to laugh at June's discomfort. After brushing the snow out of her shirt, June made a snowball and threw it, it hit James directly in the chest.

"Every man for themselves," June called to them.

The snowball game went on for a while longer. Then pretty soon the snowball fight turned into a game of catching June ad placing the snowball down her shirt after James, Ginny and Maribelle teamed up against her. The courtyard was filled with their laughter and joyful shouts. Quickly, James caught up to her, snowball in hand.

"Alright! Alright, I surrender!" June shouted, as James just managed to grab onto her wrist.

The snowball that was ready to be shoved down her sweater, stayed in James' gloved hand. As the two stopped, Ginny and Maribelle came to a stop in the snow just before them, their cheeks and noses flushed with the cold winter are along with the running. James' hand stayed gripped around June's wrist, the snowball still in his right hand.

"I still really wanna put this down your shirt," James admitted.

"Oi, I surrendered," June tried to justify.
