Chapter Four

After we finish getting ready it's 4:00 pm*
"Are y'all ready?" I ask Char and Ash. "Yes," they reply. We walk out our dorm and again, I run into Luke. "Ouch! Luuuuke," I say. I feel my feet leave the ground. "Woah!!" I realize I'm falling backwards. I brace myself for the impact, only to feel myself land in a pair of strong arms. I open my eyes and see Luke looking back at me, his eyes wide in concern. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you. I was just coming to see how you were...." he trailed off while looking at me. "Damn..... you look... beautiful....." I feel my face burning. Oh god I'm blushing. "Um... thanks..." I say. "Ahem." I look back and I see Charley and Ashely staring at us. "Oh um.. we were just leaving. Bye Luke. We'll see you later." He helps me stand up and gives me a quick hug. "Let me know if something happens, ok?" He says it to me more than Ash. "Don't worry, we will." Charley says for me. We walk away and I sigh. "That was close.... he looked like he was about to kiss me." "You lie!" Ashley says. "No lie. Truth." I say. "Wow... OOOUUUUUU MAAAXXXX he got a crush on yoooouuuuu" Charley teases. "Oh be quiet!!" I laugh. We make it outside and we decide to go in my car. We got in I immediately plugged in my phone and played Beyoncé. "OMG YES!! FORMATION!!!" We all holler. We all start to sing along to the song we all love. It's our squad anthem (lol 😂)

As soon as we get to the club, which is three and a half hours away, and get something to eat, make multiple stops, it's already 9:00. "Right on time," I say. We all laugh and walk into the line. I take out my phone and check my Snapchat. "She's gone" is on Luke's Snapchat. 'U talkin bout me?' I ask him. 'Maybe....' he says. "Smile girls," I say. They look up and smile and I take the picture. 'Hanging with my girls. I'm fine Luke.' I put in the caption. After what feels like an hour of standing in line, we finally make it to the door. "ID's please," the bouncer says. We give him our student ID's and he lets us in. I sigh. "We finally made it girls. Let's have some fun and enjoy ourselves." I say. "Agreed" Ashley and Charley say. We go onto the dance floor and start dancing. I immediately recognize the song and look at Ashley to see if she does, too. By the look on her face, she does. It's her brother's favorite song, "Small Town Angels." We start laughing and Charley looks at us like we are crazy. "It's Luke's favorite song. 'Small Town Angels.' He's always singing it. It's been his fav since 6th grade." Suddenly the song changes to 'Shape Of You' by Ed Sheeran. "OOOOHHH MMMYYYY GGGOOODDDD I HAVEN'T HEARD THIS IN A WHILE!!" I say. I start to sing it and Ashley follows. I smile and notice a blonde boy looking at me. I ignore him and keep singing. A few minutes later I feel something at my ear. "Want to dance?" The strange guy asks. I look up at him and say, "sure." I turn to the girls and mouth 'be right back' and point to the tall blonde dude. They give me a thumbs up and I see Ash keep singing. Figures. The boy leads me to the dance floor and we start to dance. "So, what's your name?" He asks. "Max. You?" "Ashton," he says. "Cool," I say. I notice his cheeks look flushed. Was he drinking? I think. "How old are you?" I ask. "20" he says. "Oh." After a while I thought I felt his arm slide around my waist. I panicked and looked around for Charley and Ash. "W- what are you doing?" I look at Ashton with wide eyes. "Shh..." and he tries to kiss me. He is rewarded with a slap across the face. "Ouch!!!" He yelps. He staggers backwards and lets me go. I run to find Charley and Ashley. I finally find them and run to them, choking back tears. "Darling, what happened?" Charley says. "Ashton.... tried to.... kiss me..." I pant. "I was so scared. I didn't know what to do. I want to go back. Please?" I look at them with pleading eyes. They agree and we head to the car. "I'll drive," Charley says. "Thanks," I say. I take out my phone and text Luke.
Me: Luke...
Luke: what's wrong?? What happened??
Me: someone tried to kiss me... I was scared. I didn't know what to do.
Luke: what?! Where are y'all?!
Me: we r coming back rn.
Luke: good. I'll meet up with u when u get here.
Me: if I don't fall asleep.
Luke: tell Charley let me know when y'all get here.
Me: kk.
I look up into the mirror. "Charley. You have to let Luke know when we get back." "Ok" she says. I feel my eyelids getting heavy. I lean back and fall asleep into a deep, dreamless sleep.
Around midnight they get back to the dorms*
I feel myself getting picked up by strong arms.... "Luke?" I say. "I'm right here," I hear him say. I wrap my arms around his neck and rest my head on his chest. I feel safe with him... I smile and fall back asleep to the rock of his footsteps.
