Heeeellllloooooooo guys!! Long time no see! I'm really sorry I haven't updated this in so long 😞 I've just been really busy. I hope you guys enjoy this one though, I've been trying to get it done for months, not sure why it was taking so long. I'm also not very happy with my ending but let me know what you guys think about this!

Also, I recently fell down the Final Fantasy 7/Crisis Core feels hole, so I impulsively started another book dedicated to Zack reader inserts! Check it out if you want, there's only one post at the moment but I plan on writing a bunch :)

Vanitas leaned against the counter right behind the register, arms crossed and a permanent scowl etched onto his face. The eclectic color scheme of the small shop and uniforms doing nothing but dampening his mood even more. And, as if to add insult to injury, there was a perfect view of the beach right across from the shop. All of the carefree people walking around and having a good time only seemed to taunt and remind him of where he'd rather be at this exact moment in time.

He tried his best to deter any potential visitors by staring them down but they always seemed too preoccupied by what their stomachs were telling them to even notice. One such customer stood before him.

"Um... so exactly what do you guys sell here?"

Vanitas had to resist the urge to literally face palm in front of the customer.

"What does it look like we sell here?" He replied instead.

"Um... ice cream... and stuff," the boy replied, clearly not noticing the edge to Vanitas's response.

"Good job Sherlock Holmes," he said sarcastically, "so what do you want?"

"Well... um... what do you recommend?"

"Nothing, " Vanitas responded bluntly, "Half the stuff here tastes like crap."

"O-okay," the boy said, unsure of how to respond, "What's the most popular flavor?"

"You've got to be kidding me..." Vanitas rolled his eyes as he slowly shuffled towards the huge sign hanging next to the register, "Sea-salt ice cream is the most popular."

"I'd like one of those."

"Finally..." Vanitas sighed as he prepared the ice cream and handed it to the boy, who gave him exact cash and change, "Have a nice day," he said sarcastically, "Hope you enjoy being one step closer to diabetes."

After the boy left, Vanitas sat down on the stool, resting his head on top of his hands.

"Vanitas..." Tifa popped her head around the corner from the back room, "We've talked about this–"

"Yeah, yeah Teef," he replied with a wave of his hand, "Be nice to the customers, I know."

"As your manager," Tifa smiled at him, a twinkle in her eye, "I'd appreciate it if you actually did."

"Seriously?" He slowly turned in his chair to face Tifa, eyebrows raised in amusement, "You're going to play the manager card?"

"Hey," Tifa waved a hand in the air, "Desperate times call for desperate measures!"

"And by that you mean...?" Vanitas crossed his arms, leaning back against the counter.
