Breezeblocks ~alt-J
Keith sat in his room staring at the wall. He couldn't stop thinking of what Lance and Matt had said. Of course the Galra would never make him just forget, so what exactly had they done to him?He pulled up his pant leg, checking out was seemed like a strange warm sensation. He could tell it was where he'd been grabbed. At first he'd assumed it was just a bruise. It was purplish in color, after all. But bruises weren't supposed to spread... right? So, maybe it was whatever the Galra had done to him. A disease perhaps? Maybe he was just going to die. Strange thing was, that was so much less scary than what he thought it actually was.
A knock resonated through his room. He tugged his pant leg down and glared at the door suspiciously. "Who is it?"
"John Cena." Pidge answered from the other side of the door. "Let me in."
"Listen, If you're here to talk about what happened while we were gone, I don't know. Ask Lance." Keith groaned. Of course he was happy to hear from her but he didn't want to talk about that.
"No, he won't really open up either." Pidge said through the door. "I don't care, I'm just glad you're back. Now let me in, I brought popcorn."
Keith stood up and opened the door. Pidge pushed past him and sat down on his bed. "So, it's not exactly popcorn but Hunk worked on getting something close."
Keith smiled a bit and the door closed behind the two. He sat down beside her. "So, you don't want to talk about it?"
Pidge seemed to ignore the question. Of course she did, it drove her absolutely nuts not to know. But she could wait until they were ready to open up. Besides, it had only been a day. "So, I made a compilation of all the funniest stuff from each one of Coran's home videos." She opened up a device similar to a laptop and clicked a few things, then pulled up a video.
Keith leaned forward happily, they used to do this all the time, and now Pidge was here like nothing had ever happened. It was nice to know that Pidge would always be there.
She set up a projector and gave them both a little of the popcorn. "You know the drill." She threw a pillow at him then pointed at the ground. Keith rolled off the bed and sat down on the pillow on the ground. She started the clip then begun to braid his hair. He watched the video with a content smile plastered on his face.
"How long have you had this?" He spoke of the clip.
"Well, after they made me stop looking I smashed the laptop that I had this on to bits. It took me 5 hours and a dig through the trash to retrieve it." She frowned. "I bet you didn't miss this?"
"Didn't have the chance to. But I can't remember. I bet I did." Keith told her. The gentle tug of her crafting his hair was familiar, more familiar than the warmth, that was on the verge of being painful, on his leg. He wouldn't say anything. Pidge would know almost automatically what it was, she was a genius after all. The heat was expanding, growing up his leg.
He chuckled slightly at the clips, which ranged from teen Coran to Coran now, doing anything from fighting an ooblublu to cooking gualdeck, all with distasteful animations voiced by him.
Suddenly, the video switched to another clip. Lance was singing badly and swaying his hips, helping Hunk cook. Pidge was chuckling behind the camera. Lance turned around and winked then started dancing for the camera.
Images flashed before Keith's eyes. At first he was shocked, then, without his approval, smiling, grinning.
"Did you know they play music in here?"
"Yeah, its kind of quiet."
Pidge looked down at him. "You good?"
"Yeah, I just." He shrugged. "I don't know." He'd been saying that a lot lately, and shrugging a lot too. A blush hung heavy on his cheeks.
Pidge tied off the end of his braid and leaned over, looking down at him, pausing the video. "What happened with Lance and you?"
Keith bit his lip and stared at the video, which was stuck on Lance in an absurd pose, a huge adorable grin on his face.
Keith shook his head a little. "Bits and pieces come back to me." He closed his eyes as if he was searching his mind for the few memories he had. Truly, he was watching them replay under his eyelids. "We danced."
When Keith reopened his eyes Pidge was right over him. "Get on the bed. Now."
Keith was taken aback. She sounded almost angry. Her own hair was in a tiny ponytail, yet most of her hair was still falling out. He glasses hung on the collar of her shirt. She sat Indian style on the bed and patted the spot in front of her.
Keith got up onto the bed and sat in the same way as she was sitting. "Yeah?" He tilted his head.
Her angry facade fell quickly. She leaned forward and searched his face. A sparkle suddenly filled her eyes. She backed up a little and nodded. "You love him."
A look of confusion crossed Keith's face. He stared down at the bed, his lips refusing to move.
"Don't you?" She was hesitant now. She didn't want to pressure him. But they always talked about how hot guys or girls were. Keith was the first person Pidge had come out to. She used to gush about how cute she thought Allura was, but she got over that crush quickly. Now... well he didn't know. It had been a while. Last time they had their weekly viewing Keith still felt something for Shiro. But that was obviously long gone. That couldn't have vanished in just a day.
"I think so," was the most honest answer he could give. "I've only ever had crushes. I don't know what love feels like, but maybe this could be it. It feels like it. How do you know?" Maybe it could explain this wonderful feeling in his chest. This wonderful heart wrenching feeling. Like wanting something so badly but fearing you could never have it.
Pidge let out a high-pitched 'eep!' And grabbed Keith's hands. "Really?!" She had no idea what love felt like, but she was excited to watch it blossom.
"Really.?" He replied a little uncertainly.
She smirked a bit then stood and started to pack up.
"Next week?" She asked once she had everything packed up except the substitute popcorn.
"As always." He stood and embraced her.
She hugged him for a little too long and inhaled his scent. "I'm glad you're back."
"I'm glad to be back." And he didn't have to lie. He was.
