Alys jumped over the crude railing, tail swishing anxiously. Where is she? The sound of crunching leaves made her ears perk up, trying to pick up where the sound came from.

“Alys?”  A voice with no body called out attentively.

“Over here!” Alys replied and she kept her voice low, made sure she alerted no creature in the moonless night. Tonight was the night the demons were at their most powerful. Alys held out her hand and felt branches until she found the right one.

Grunting softly, she tugged gently on the branch that was holding her wrist. “Tali,” she sighed happily. Tali shook the dirt off of her, and whispered as best as she could, “Demons. Alice. Tali…Run,” Alys nodded, and then remembered there was no light, so she picked up little Tali and put her in her pouch.

Alys ran as quietly as she could, which was very silent due to the fact that she was a Runner of the Tribe. She was on a mission to find the missing tree nymph, Tali. Tali was the youngest nymph, and the most special. She was the only nymph that could talk, and she was blessed by the Sky Mistress so that when she becomes rooted, her branches will reach the sky. No one understood the blessing at first, but all would fall into place when they needed it most.
