Waters POV

"Waters is an interesting name. Where did you get the idea?" Mr. Wits asked over lasagna. "Well it's actually an interesting story." My mom said. " We found out I was pregnant with Waters the day my little brother who had been lost at sea for two years was found. We decided that we were going to treat it as a sign, jokingly, and decided to name the baby Kai, which means water in Hawaiian and forgiveness in Japanese. But then we found out she was a girl, and Ryan was convinced that Kai was a boys name, so it was Waters or Aqua." My mom said, finishing the story with a dramatic flourish of her hands. "Now I have a question," my dad said. "Why was Karma chosen as name? It's beautiful, but I've never heard of it being used like that"

"I was named Karma because everyone thought I was a boy. The Griffen had laughed at his best friend for getting a little sister a few days before I was born, thinking that he was getting another brother. I came later, and all the nurses were surprised when is was a girl. My parents named me when Bramble yelled " bad karma" to Griffen." Karma explained. My parents looked interested.

"Yeah, and now when she does something wrong, we get to yell "bad karma" when she does something wrong." Griffen said. Karma glared at him.

"Boys, be nice." Mr. Wits said. "Anyway," Mrs. Wits started, "thank you again for inviting us, but we should be going"

"Do you want to take some of the food? I made more than I was planning, and I don't like wasting food." My mom said. "That'd be awesome!! We haven't had real food, excluding tonight, for like 4 weeks!" Bramble yelled. His father glared at him. My mom just laughed. "We had better get you some then."

I saw Karma leave the room, and it worried me. I snuck out after her when mom's back was turned, and followed the sound of our ancient floor boards to my room. What was she doing?
