"Merry Christmas everyone!" Fred said, pulling on his Santa hat as he walked into Honey Lemon's apartment. He was the last to arrive and everyone was sitting around the tree.
After watching Home Alone, A Christmas Story, and baking tons of cookies, Hiro noticed someone was missing. He wandered down the hall toward the bathroom to see Honey Lemon sitting on the floor, crying, her phone in her hand. Quietly, he sat next to her.
"Hi, Hiro." She whispered.
"You alright, Honey?" He asked gently before glancing at the screen. Just before the phone shut off, he caught a glimpse of an old picture. It was Honey Lemon with his brother, Tadashi.
"I used to love Christmas." She said. "But now, without Tadashi..."
"I know." Hiro said quietly.
"Hiro, they never found his body in the wreckage and after the whole micro bots thing, I got to thinking: what if he's out there in a hospital somewhere? What if he's alive but we don't know it." She started crying again and Hiro put his arms around her. They sat together in silence for a moment until Fred came tumbling around the corner.
"It's time for presents!" He cried out.
They each took turns exchanging gifts. Honey Lemon got a new set of test tubes from Wasabi and she gave Gogo a new helmet to go with the bike she was still working on. Fred insisted on going last, but no one could quite tell why he was sitting in the corner shaking with excitement. An hour later, they turned to him.
"Okay, Fred." Honey Lemon said. "Your turn."
"I guarantee you that this will be the greatest Christmas gift ever given, but first, get in the car." He said walking out the door mysteriously. As he drove, he didn't say a single word no matter their questions.
Soon, the were getting out of the car in the parking lot of San Fransokyo General Hospital. Hiro and Honey Lemon shared a quick glance. No one said a word as Fred had them all pile into an elevator.
He led them along a hallway until they stopped at a room. As he opened the door, he took a breath and said, "Merry Christmas, guys."
Sitting in the bed, tears already in his eyes was--
"Tadashi?" Hiro asked stepping into the room. "You're alive?"
"My dad found him a couple weeks ago, just before he woke up." Fred explained. "He was in a coma for a few months and no one knew who he was until my dad decided to do some digging. He--"
Hiro started to block everything out and slowly approached his brother. He was covered in burn scars, his right arm still wrapped in a bandage that went all the way up to his neck.
"You're alive?" Hiro repeated.
"I'm alive, Hiro." Tadashi smiled weakly. "I couldn't find my way out of the building during the fire. A few firefighters found me and pulled me out just before the building exploded. A beam fell on my back. I can't walk anymore, Hiro."
"That's okay." He said. "I can build something to help you walk again. We'll figure it out."
"Tadashi?" Honey Lemon's voice was small as she choked through her tears.
"Honey?" He whispered.
"I can't believe it." She said. After trying, and failing, to form another sentence, she collapsed onto his bed. Gently, she grabbed the front of his hospital gown and kissed him. "I missed you."
