Chapter Twenty-Two

Riley's POV

I woke up cold, and even though I'm used to that I was surprised. I expected to be woken up with the warmth of Dylan beside me, but when I opened my eyes he wasn't there, only his wrinkled sheets were left.

"Dylan?" I moaned and wrapped the sheet around my naked body. I looked around but even in the darkness of the room I knew that I was alone. I sighed and got up and walked to the bathroom. I looked myself in the mirror before quickly turning and hopping in the shower.

I turned the valves so that they were scolding hot and just let it relax my aching muscles. I let my body slide down until my bottom hit the floor of the shower and I began to weep. Looking at me you think I was so strong, so unbreakable, but the truth was I was broken. The only one who could help me make it through was Dylan and last night I needed him more than anything. I probably looked like I was a horrible person, but I needed to feel last night.

There was a loud crashing sound coming from downstairs, which caused me to jump. I quickly got off the floor and turned off the water.

"Dylan is that you?" I yelled before stepping out of the shower.

I quickly picked up a towel and ran into Dylan's room, right as another crash sounded through the house. "Shit." I whispered and hurried to put on the closest clothes I found, which happened to be Dylan's.

I walked to the door and was about to put my hand on the knob, but stopped when I realized that I was going downstairs without a weapon.

I looked to my left and saw a wooden baseball bat. I quickly grabbed it and quietly made my way out of the room.

"Are you stupid or something?" I heard a soft female voice ask and then a grunt.

"Sorry, but Jesus do you have to hit so damn hard!" The voice sounded familiar.

I quickly made my way down the steps and peaked into the kitchen where I saw Derek and an unknown woman.

"Whoa there slugger!" Derek said as he suddenly noticed me.

"Derek what the holy hell are you doing here?" I asked as I let out the breath that I didn't know I was holding.

"Dylan called, said he had some work to do over at the station, and asked me to come over to keep an eye on you." Derek said with a smartass grin.

"Actually, honey, Dylan asked me to keep an eye on you. The pain in the ass over here decided to come with me. I'm Karen by the way."

"Karen? Yeah I think Dylan mentioned you before.:" I let out my hand and she took it and we shook.

"I'm sorry for your loss." She said and bit her lip. I looked over at Derek but saw him looking at Karen like she was a piece of meat. I internally rolled my eyes.

"Thanks, and I appreciate both of you guys coming here, I really do, but I think I'm going to be okay." I watched as the two looked at each other, or should I say I watched as Karen looked at Derek because God knows he was already staring at her.

"Actually, Riley, Dylan has requested that some one be with you until he gets home." Derek said finally taking his eyes off of Karen.

"That man is way to over protective:" I sighed.

"Well, after the explosion-" Derek started.

"Explosion?" I asked alarmed.

"You idiot. She didn't know about that." Karen said smacking his arm. Derek instantly flinched.
