Soon Rita was up at her feet with the main mission of packing her bags.
"Damn it." She gathered up all her savings only to find that there wasn't enough for a one way ticket to New York.
She glanced at her bedside clock which read 5:00, it was already afternoon, a time when Kathy had her daily nap. Kathy kept a couple thousand dollars in her jewellery case for rainy days and today was one of them.
Rita quietly crept towards Kathy's room and slowly turned the door knob. She found Kathy in deep slumber while her snores bounced across the room. Rita already knew of the case's location - anyone would think twice about looking under a bed.
"Gotcha." She carefully opened it, removed the stash of money and placed the case back where it belonged.
She retreated back to her room, putting the money and the contents from the parcel in her backpack. She decided to leave behind a note for Kathy, detailing her desire of never coming back to Baltimore.
Once content, Rita made her way down the stairs with her belongings in tow, walking out of the house for the final time.
