Every day around where I'm from there's something extra. All you hear is sirens and gun shots. If you walk down my block all you see is projects and yellow tape. Girls always yelling and fighting and niggas always tryna shoot people or put their dick in every pretty girl they see.

Hey my name is kehlani I'm 16 soon to be 17 in October this year. I'm tall thick and a bad mixed brown skin thang. I'm always in the newest baddest clothes and shoes, a few girls tried to fight me but I'm not messy. My brother takes care for me and give me money because my parents wont.

Everyday when I go to school some thugs always trying to holla at me, but it's this one boy Nico that's always trying to talk to me but he's nun to trip over.

Every other week he gotta new hoe, one time both of his hoes fought on my block. This girl Neisha that say on the first floor fought this girl name Tamia over him.

I gotta messed up family, I got my mom Nina and my daddy Bobby and my sister Kenya stay with my grandma. My daddy is cheating on my mama with some rich white girl, and my mama have a drinking problem.

I can't say that I'm Americans sweet little angel. I got friends, I go out and enjoy myself, party, wear fast clothes, and talk to boys but not these goofy niggas over here.

But it all goes down on 5th avenue, every one come out with their squads in their bestest fits and have a ball.

My best Friend Tracy and Monica and my dog Princess been my best friends since the 9th.  We're all gonna be seniors after summer break. We been by each other threw thick and thin and we never turned our backs on another. I got Princess for my 14th birthday as a graduation gift from my NANA.

My brother Eddie is from Chicago he come here 3 times a month to give me money and check on my dad. He stay in Chicago with his mama and girlfriend and their 6 month daughter Maliah.

I'm just a girl trying to get out of the hood.
