"On one hand who cares? and on the other hand, so what?"
I made my way home in the bus; funded by with loose change. Once I entered the door, I fell, face-flat on the floor and trudged my way into my room like a snail; not bothering to check if anyone were home. I had my bat. My eyes dropped and I collapsed on my bed dramatically with my arms spread apart, falling asleep in that exact way. Who knew having friends would be so.....tiring.
I swear, it felt as though I had slept through Sunday too because when I woke up, not much of the day was left so I changed into something comfy, locked my door and hanged up the 'DO NOT DISTURB' sign before spilling out some snacks and playing some upbeat music to complete my homework to and then falling asleep once more in my mess. Surprisingly, Jonah actually didn't disturb me and I didn't see him for the whole day which I passed off as weird but I still got what I wanted so, all was well.
*Monday*
My alarm buzzed every couple of seconds and each time I would hit snooze until finally, I left my messy unmade bed and made for the door; having a quick shower and throwing on a simple outfit in 10 minutes or so; leaving me with slightly wet hair. "I'm off!" I yelled from the stairs and Jonah met me by the door, once I had realised Mason was already outside. He ruffled my hair and I grumbled, "see you Leah" he muttered and I tiptoed to peck his cheek lightly before waving and leaving the house. It was as if nothing had even happened on the weekend.
Mason beeped the horn and I jumped so high, I thought I was in the clouds (sllliiiight over-exaggeration.) "What are you waiting for?" He yelled and I shrugged as I hopped in the car, remembering my last encounter with Theo and wondering how jealous of Mason he must've been every day of his life. I mean, boy, did I not want to face him again. "Hey Mason?" I asked and Mason bobbed his head up slightly, "what did happen with Rebecca?" I continued and he froze momentarily. "Well, we would've had a very intimate and meaningful conversation had she taken her lips off mine for a second" Mason explained and I shuddered at the thought. "You seriously can't keep doing this to her" I mumbled and Mason hesitated before whispering a short "I know" before we pulled in to the usual parking space in school.
"Hey guys" Kyle greeted as we came closer and there appeared to be a group of boys all huddled together like penguins grasping for warmth, stood not far from the main building and I seemed awkward in the crowd. "Hey" I said and one of the boys glanced at me wearily. "Is she like, one of us now?" He asked, his words slightly slurred for a reason I didn't want to think about at the moment. I pressed my lips hard together, waiting for some words; any words. But all they did was analyse me, every one of them before Theo eventually perked up.
"Yeah. She's one of us."
It was only two sentences but it made me feel special, wanted, almost as if I fit in and I beamed so much that practically all the guys could see it. After no less than 6 minutes, the bell rang and we all paused mid-convo to groan. "Are you coming?" Kyle asked and I shook my head, indicating that I had my lesson in a different direction to his. As I walked to the building, a small circular potato chip flew my way and I looked from the floor where it had fell to the crowd where it had come from. Except it wasn't a crowd. It was more like a small group.
One boy with blonde wavy hair stood in the middle, his bag of chips open and I soon realised where the one aimed at me had come from. Stood around him were about 4 to 5 other boys who poked him and seemed to be laughing amongst themselves so I stepped closer. "You need to stop eating these fatty" one of them spat and another laughed. "Look at that. Are you pregnant?" Another asked, poking his stomach and I reached out instantly; whacking his hand back. An act which caused the entire clan to stare at me.
"What was that for?" The boy who's hand I smacked asked and I realised the grounds getting emptied and that I'd soon be late. "You were fat shaming him" I confronted and another guy burst into a fit of laughter. "Is that right?" He asked, grinning whilst racking a hand through his perfect hair. It's somehow nearly always the pretty boys who were assholes, I came to notice. The boy in the middle, on the other hand, was shuffling uncontrollably. "Yes" I stated and another one emerged who looked, you guessed it, quite too beautiful to be coming to school but it just made me want to punch him.
"I don't think that is the correct term. You can think of it as dietary advisement" He said nonchalantly and my lip curled unwillingly. "Well have you considered that he might not want your dietary advisement?" I questioned and the first one smirked in my face. "Why don't you get going? Pretty girl like you wouldn't want to get hurt now" he said, running his index finger along my cheek and I pushed him back with a lot of my might. "Touch me again and I'll show you what a pretty girl like me is capable of" I threatened and all of them began laughing instantly.
"You're lucky I like courage and unnecessary bravery or I'd be marching you to class right now" he said and I figured he had to be the boss man or something. "Leave him alone" I snarled; focusing on the blonde boy in the middle, gripping his packet of chips tightly and he shook as I spoke my words. "Tell you what, we won't bother him again if you kiss me right here, right now" he tried to compromise and I scoffed. "No. I'll tell you what, unless you and your little friends want black eyes and bruises then you won't bother him again," I paused to examine them, all on the verge of laughter. "Because my friends, who are all guys, may I add, they're not too gentle. And my brother? Neither's he" I growled and he smiled in my face with annoyingly pearly teeth and I looked at the boy in the middle; tilting my head and signalling for him to leave which he did.
Once I was sure he were far enough, I turned, ready to also make my exit but a tight grip on my left wrist twisted my back again. "For the record, we're not too threatened" He said slowly and I ripped my arm free from his grip. "Well for the record, if you touch me one more time, I'll kick you so hard where the sun don't shine that you'll be sure your chances of kids would be zilch. I mean, not that you'd be able to find a woman who'd be willing to do such a thing with something like you" I said, my words rushed as it dawned upon me how late I'd be so I began walking away; leaving his friends in 'oo's' and 'aa's.'
"Mouth like that's gonna get you in trouble!" He yelled after me and I shrugged my shoulders. "Too bad I don't give a shit!" I shouted as response before finally entering the building completely.
