"Lillie you got everything?" Mel yelled on the porch
"Yes auntie Mel" I say from my small beat up Jeep.
"You didn't forget Mrs. Ball right?" She yelled again
I know that's weird. I do indeed have a ball named Mrs. Ball. I've played volleyball since I was eight and I'm 16 now. My birthday was yesterday. Over the years I've named my volleyballs silly names. I really don't know why but it was a habit, it was like a new addition to my small family of volleyballs. I know that sounds crazy but whatever.
"Of course i wouldn't forget Mrs. Ball" I say.
"Ok well uncle Hugh told me to tell you he loves you and that to be careful on the interstates and everything like that. He also mentioned he was sorry that he didn't get to talk or see you before you leave to go back home. He had to be at the car lot early this morning." She explained.
"I know I know auntie. Just tell him I love him and I'll see him soon. I'm not going to stay long up there. I rather be down here." I say.
Auntie Mel tells me a few more times she loves me and I say the same back and I finely was on my way to my home state for most of my life, Virginia.
I plugged in the address auntie Mel gave me into my gps on my rickety dashboard. Auntie Mel said my family moved into a new house and they left all my belongings that I left in the old one. From what I heard the old house is like a storage place for extra furniture and apparently the rest of my stuff from when I was like 13. I guess I'll go there first to see if id like to take some of my 13 year old things from my old house. Then after that I'll go to that stupid "modern" ranch they have.
Let me start at the beginning and quickly tell you how I moved to my auntie and uncles small bay house in Oakland. Well when I was 13 my auntie came up a lot that summer and spent a lot of time with me. She persuaded my mom to let me come down with her for the school year and see how I liked it. She said I had more opportunities waiting for me down in the bay. She was mostly saying I'd have a better chance with my life long dream, volleyball down there. So my mom and stepdad considered it(my real father is somewhere doing drugs or fucking some pornstar). The only reason they finely let me was because my step sister, Maggie didn't really get along. She despised me. She did everything to embarrass me in front of my long term crushes, Oliver and luke. They were also my bestfriends. More like the only friends I had because Maggie made a great reputation for me. She told everybody at school that I wasn't a virgin when I was 12. So my nickname was Lillie the slutty flower. To be honest how the fuck does kids come up with those nicknames. I started getting bullied pretty bad so having a fresh start was a good idea. My stepdad tried everything to make Maggie s good girl but he eventually gave up. I believe he secretly liked me better as a daughter. So auntie Mel helped me pack a few essentials for me to live down there with her and uncle hughy for about a year. Let's just say I decided I wanted to stay down in Cali a little longer than my parents expected. My mom became angry with me and stopped talking to me or should I say begging me to come back. She knew it was the best for me to stay down there, especially considering I was in ninth grade and I was already the volleyball captain for Oakland hurricanes. She just really missed her sweet loving daughter that had a thing for "satanic music". She was just like me though, she loved rock music, and I'm sure she still does. During the years I stayed in Virginia I heard about her crazy rock concert stories. They were pretty rad.
I just passed the California state line so now I'm in Nevada. Let's just say I have a long road trip ahead. Lovely.
My parents have no clue I'm coming. I should arrive there Saturday if I only spend the night in a hotel 3 nights.
If I remember right Maggie's birthday is that day. July 3, the day before lovely July 4 where everybody parties and shoots fireworks. If she's grown up some she wouldn't mind me crashing in on her little bask of a party, but if she's like she was when I was around she's going to a have a fit. I kinda hope Oliver and luke will be there although I'm sure they wouldn't ever forgive me for leaving without telling them. Even worse when they texted me with concerning questions I never replied. But soon they finely found out what happened to me because of my Snapchat stories and all my social media posts. I really missed them. I could tell them anything. Yes, many of times I've felt like I've needed to apologize or talk to them but I couldn't grow any balls to.
I pulled over for the night at some ratchet hotel across from a qt gas station, hoe convenient. I parked and checked in then walked to the qt to get a nice slice of pizza cause why not. I also got me a arizona peace tea. It gave me memories from back when Oliver would sneak some from his dad's Winn Dixie. Yea I know surprisingly we still have a Winn dixie. But we wouldn't if his father didn't privately own it. Oliver would bring the tea and I'd bring the volleyball and football while Luke would bring some home made pizza to our hang out place behind the woods. It was like a small meadow with a cabin on it. The cabin was like our hang out spot. We would have sleep overs and everything. Although my mom and step dad never knew cause I mean I girl with two boys is weird... but I would like to think my parents wouldn't of thought I was a slut but Maggie made it hard to believe otherwise. I sometimes would have my close friend come over too. She wasn't like a bestfriend but she was somewhat close to it, her name was Averie. She was cool and nice she never believed Maggie surprisingly.
As I walk back in the nice breezy night I think of scenarios of what would happen when my parents see me just show up on their front porch.
