I followed my mother inside and sat on the couch. I didn't try to get too comfortable cause there was no use. It was just too modern or too new for my taste so I sat on the edge.

"So, honey I'm guessing you liked Oakland or I'm sure you wouldn't have stayed that long there" said with a nasty tone.

"You know mom I'll just go. Your nothing but a bitch nowadays. I know Maddie is your favorite daughter and I know I'm a fuck up." I say mad as I'm picking myself off the couch.

"No sit down Lillie. It's just I've missed you." She says

"Yea ok well that's great mom." I say.

Before mom could say anything a tall, tan, country looking guy with nice brown hair comes walking in. He looked very familiar but I couldn't put a finger on him.

"Hi umh... Mrs. Rose sorry to interrupt... but umh you don't mind if I use the restroom?" He says.

Oh a nice country buff guy with manors... delicious... oh shut up Lillie ew...

I shook that little thought out of my head.

"Oh I don't Gavin go right ahead. Anytime you need to. You know you don't need to ask." She says back to him. That name Gavin came back to me I remember a guy named Gavin that I hung out with over a summer. Then again I hung out with lots of guys through the summers cause girls in Cali are just too stuck up.

"Thanks Mrs. Rose" he says

As he walks up stair mom yells "call me Jackie not Mrs. Rose."

"Ok Mrs..... I meant Jackie." He says from the upstairs hallway.

When I knew he was out of earshot I asked mom who he was.

Apparently he was our next door neighbor although they lived a mile from the house. That's how much land there was in between the two house.

"Yea he's a cutie. I think he has a girlfriend though. If you didn't live in Oakland you probably would've had a shot with him but I believe he's in a pretty committed relationship." She says with a sigh.

"Ok mom... ok... it's not like there aren't cute guys in Oakland and i didn't even say he was cute I just asked who he was."

"But I know you think he's cute." She says with a smirk.

"Whatever." I say as I roll my eyes.

"So how is volleyball?" She asks

"Oh my it's great. I'm the captain and I already have colleges looking at me and im not even in the twelfth grade yet." I say a little too excited.

"Wow that great honey. So have you met Amy guys there?" She asks

"Well umh... yea I dated this guy for a while but we soon went our separate ways. It was for the best. Then my friend Sebastian he's really cute but I'm pretty much friend zoned so..."

"Wow what was his name?" She asks

"Umh you know I can't remember it was a while back. But yea I've met a few guys." I say.

At that point the boy named Gavin came back down.

"Oh Gavin this is my daughter Lillie. The one I told you about that lived in Cali who plays volleyball." My mom says.

"Oh yea that one. Hi my name is Gavin nice to meet ya Lillie." He says in a nice deep country voice.

"Nice to meet you too." I say as I shake his hand.

The house phone starts ringing. Soy mom runs after it.

"Hey uh y'all two just hang out or something. Or umh Gavin just show Lillie around since shes never been to this house. I have to get the phone."

"Ok" he says.

He looks at me.

"So umh how is it down in California." He asks

"Oh it's umh...uh nice I love it." I say in the most preppiest cutest girliest voice possible.

"Yea I've only been there once. It's pretty nice." He says as he looks at his watch.

"Yea.." I didn't know what else to say...

"What made you come unexpectedly?" He asks while he looks up. His blue eyes were so pretty I couldn't help but stare.

"I just thought I'd take a trip down here since I haven't seen them, my family in quite some time." I say.

"Oh yea true." He says as he nods understandingly.

"So umh what do you like to do out here?" I asked trying to sound casual but more like a cow. 😂

"Well ain't really nothing to do. I round up the cows every morning in the weekends and summer days. After that I have football practice. Then I play baseball in the spring. And between that I ride around on the razor or four-wheeler that's about it." He says

"Oh that's fun I like football and baseball." I say... well that was a little lie. Not really but it's more like I like football and baseball players. Although football is interesting.

"Yea."

"What position you play?" I ask trying to keep this dead conversation going.

"Mainly quarterback. But I'll be linebacker. Right now I'm the captain and counter back of the Huntington high bulls." He says in a bragging voice.

"Wow nice. I'm captain for the oakland hurricanes." I say.

"Nice." He says.

"Hey umh you seem pretty chill. Ya wanna forget about this little get together of maggies and ride four-wheelers I got an extra at the house." he asks.

"Umh yea sure let me tell my mom. Also I have to ask her about charlie." I say as I get up to go find my mom who would be talking to an annoyed charlie on the phone about how he's just now getting off of work.
