Imagine: Ralph Tresvant
1984

You were doing your homework as usual when the house phone rang. You picked it up from the table and held it to your head." Will you except the charges from Ralph Tresvant?" The female voice said. (Or whatever it said in the movie.)" Yes." You said into the phone and waited for Ralph to come on." Hey Y/N." He said, smiling, you can tell." Hey Ralphie what's going on?" You asked smiling like a fool." Um nothing. I was wondering if you wanted to meet up?" He asked nervously." Sure, what time?" You asked as you closed your book." In about and hour. Can you meet me at my building?" He asked nervously once again." Yeah sure. I'll talk to you when I get there." You said sweetly." Okay, bye." He said as you said bye again. You hung up the phone and made your way down stairs.
"Hey mama, can I go out?" You asked as you peeked into the kitchen." With who?" She asked as she took her glasses off." With Ralph." You said scratching your forehead." Come mere girl." Your mother said pointing to the stool in front of her. You walked to the seat slowly and sat down." Why are you always with that Ralph boy?" She asked once you sat down." Well, he's my boyfriend." You simply stated." He can't be, he just can't." She said shaking her head." Why, what's wrong with him?" You asked cocking your head to the side.
"Well...he's poor." She whispered the last part." Mama , that has nothing to do with anything." You said shaking your head and getting off the stool." Yes, how is he supposed to support you, buy you things when he doesn't have any money." She said looking into your eyes." Mama money doesn't buy love, and he's getting money with the singing and the shows he's been doing." You said smiling a little bit at the memories of you going to the talent shows for him.
"Singing isn't a real job." She sneered and put her glasses back on." Well it is for him. And he's good at it and he's going to make a lot of money off of it." You said smirking at her as you walked out the kitchen." Don't ruin yourself with that raggedy boy, Y/N." Your mother yelled out as you walked out the door. You through a piece sign up at her and walked out the door. You hoped on your bike and rode the 35 minutes to Ralph's neighborhood.
You were pretty rich for a black family in the 1960's to 1980's. Your father a businessman and your mother in a nurse. And they are very smart people so that also helps. The thing is, your mother doesn't want you dating no one that isn't in your class which you didn't know what that meant. She wanted to date some boy that lives a few houses down from you, not some one who loved a few neighborhoods away. But you could care less, you loved Ralph no matter how differently you lived.
You finally pulled up in front of Ralph building and waited a while for him. A girl came up to you with a stank attitude. That girl was Ralph's ex girlfriend Shelly." What are you doing over on this side?" She asks looking you up and down." What do you mean this side?" You asked arching a brow." You know what I mean, rich girl." She said shoving you a little bit." You don't like me because my parents have a little bit of money?" You asked and looked her up and down this time."My parents worked hard and long for that money, they get me what I need. They moved me out of the projects and I'm pound of that." You sneered and noticed Ralph coming near you." Shelly? What you doing over here?" Ralph asked wrapping an arm around your shoulder. She scoffed and walked away with a stank attitude as always." What did she say to you?" He asked as you both started to walk next to each other." She asked me why I was on this side, the usual she always tends to ask." You said rolling your eyes." I can't believe I dated her." He mumbled under his breath making you chuckle." I know." You said as you looked around and saw people staring at you.
"What are they all staring at?" You asked, whispering in Ralph's ear." I don't know." He stated simply as he turned the corners pulling you along with him." What did you want to talk about?" You asked looking at him." Well, I've been thinking." He stopped and sat on a bench. You leaned your bike on the bench and sat down next to him." Thinking about what?" You asked looking at him with furrowed eyebrows." Are we meant to be together?" He asked looking at you sadly." Why would ask me that?" You question scooting closer to him." I mean, I have to call you on a pay phone and you have your own house phone in your room." He said." And that has to do with what?" You asked looking at him confused.
"I'm not meant for you." He stated simply. You sigh sadly knowing where this is going. You lean over to kiss his cheek then you laid on his shoulder." Ralphie. You are just right for me. I know we are really young right now, but I do love you." You said as you grabbed his hand." But how am I going to buy you nice things for our anniversary or just for fun." He sigh leaning his head on yours. "I don't need gifts or anything like that. All I need is your love and to spend time with you." You said, rubbing circles on his knuckles.
"Do you mean that?" He asked softly as he played with the ring he got you after a talent show he had and some money he earned." Yes, I do." You said leaning up and turning to face him. You reached into your pocket and pulled out a ring similar to yours." This is for you, for when you go on tour, you'll remember me." You said and slid it into his finger. The wedding ring finger just like he did yours." I'll never forget you." He mumbled as he looked into your eyes." Good." You smiled and leaned into kiss him." I love you." You said once you pulled away." I love you too." He said smiling back at you.
