A thick cloud of smoke hung in the air at Reggie's party, making it hazy and difficult to make out specific faces among the crowd of people. Veronica untangled Betty from Jughead's arms as soon as they got there.

"Come on girl, let the drinking begin. Don't worry boy's, we'll make sure to get you something too" Veronica laughed relishing in the concern on both of the boys faces. Betty let herself be led through the noisy crowd, all dancing to an unfamiliar song blasting over the speaker.

The kitchen held bottle after bottle of alcohol and Betty smirked at her best friend pondering what to drink "How about a shot of each?" She joked. Veronica wrinkled her nose. All the same Betty poured herself a glass of vodka and coke, grimacing at the bitter taste. No sooner had Veronica made herself a drink than she saw Josie and headed off telling Betty she was just going to say hello.

It was all too easy for her to find solace in her red solo cup, watching the crowds of people laughing and dancing. It was so damn easy for them to fit in, to be normal. Betty assumed she was relatively good at faking it. She had never been a product of the Riverdale High gossip, but she could not say the same of her sister. She didn't know if she'd ever have a life free of reputation from the older Cooper girl, who everyone claimed was a certifiable lunatic. She finished her drink and poured another. It wasn't long before Cheryl Blossom entered the kitchen.

"Well, Betty Cooper. You're the last person I expected to see here." Cheryl raised a perfectly sculpted eyebrow.

"First time for everything Cheryl. Have a good night." She tried to turn away but Cheryl was pulling on her arm. "Just wait Betty. I wanted to talk to you about Polly." "What about her?" she asked briskly.

"I've talked about it with her, and she agreed that it makes much more sense to have me be the babies godmother. After all, she's living with us at Thornhill. I mean obviously you will always be the aunt from that side of the family but it holds more bad memories than good for Polly at this point. You understand right?" Cheryl didn't wait for a response before she patted the blondes arm and headed off into the crowd.

Betty didn't know what to think. She had loved her sister to death but it seemed that Polly had fallen hook, line and sinker for the Blossoms. Her parents weren't monsters. She had to believe that, they were simply misguided in the way they raised their daughters. The constant pressure to be someone of value in their eyes was a lot to bare. It was too difficult to think about the betrayal and loss she felt when her older sister stepped through the Thornhill gates and left Betty alone in that house with her mother.

The only solution seemed to be to finish off this drink and tell Veronica she wanted to get out of here. She didn't think she could stand to be in this kitchen a minute longer, but pulling herself off the kitchen counter was getting harder and harder. The room spun a little as she finished her drink. It was an unfamiliar feeling but not entirely unwelcome. The stress seemed to melt away as she felt herself caring less about what Cheryl said. What did it matter anyways? Polly probably wouldn't even let her see the baby with the advice of the Blossom's ringing in her ear.

"Betty!" Kevin stood with arms outstretched and Joaquin in tow. "Oh hey! I'm so glad you're here!" She yelled. She gave him a big hug but stumbled stepping back and laughed at herself.

"Do you need some air Betty? We were just about to step out." She nodded and followed them blindly through the crowd, focusing on Kevin's two feet in front of her. A part of knew she should be searching out Archie, Jughead and Veronica. What was the point they probably wouldn't even notice she was gone. For once, Betty was thankful she was there. Reggie's big house on the hill sat a fair distance from Riverdale. In the darkness she could see the stars, normally hidden by cloud or the town lights.
