A Ray Of Sunshine

Arjun was sitting in his friend, Dharun's, car on the way back from Kollam Adventure park when his friend, Shabas suggested that their squad should create a competition. But what sort of competition you may ask? Well, Shabas didn't have enough brain cells to think beyond his first sentence, so their other friend, Rasik suggested that they should do something based around Facebook since they were all constantly on it. Arjun was in 37 different Facebook groups, so you could glance at his profile and tell that he spent at least 2 and a half hours on the addictive app each day, so he chuckled to himself and agreed.

Suddenly the 7-seater car descended into chaos, each boy shouting what they thought that the competition should be based on. Arun decided to take control of the situation and announced that the competition would be on who could get the most Facebook friends in two months - well, it was the simplest idea, honestly I don't understand how no one else thought of it.

But what was the prize for the winner? (and the forfeit for the loser?). Shabas demanded that the winner should get a lifetime's supply of Snickers, but this was announced as ridiculous due to the allergies many of the boys or their families possessed, so everyone ignored Shabas, as usual. Dharun then suggested that the winner should get a season ticket to Kerala Blasters, payed by all the others. Kerala Blasters was the best football team in the country (supposedly) and this was a fantastic prize. The argument on the loser's punishment was getting so loud that Dharun's mother screamed above the noise to shut them all up, they therefore decided that it would be decided once the competition had reached its climax in two months time.

All six boys quickly threw their phones out of their pockets into their sweaty palms and turned on their mobile data faster than you could say 'Kattapanyile Hrithik Roshan' and started going through every single one of their suggested friends, adding every person they could until Facebook blocked them for 24 hours from adding people too quickly and 'misusing the Facebook app'.

The boys therefore quickly learnt that this was going to be a lot harder than they originally thought as they could not simply add everyone under the sun in one go, this had to be done slowly and strategically, otherwise they would be blocked again.

Also, they would need to try and pick people who would accept their requests, so that they didn't waste their precious limited amount of friends to request at one time.

Half a month later and Arjun had double the number of friends than before the competition had started. He was third out of all of his friends on the leader board that Arun had created, Shabas (the guy with no brain cells) and Brijith were the only two out of the whole group who were ahead of him.

It was a truth universally acknowledged that Shabas would never be able to get anyone to accept his friend requests, so no one understood how he was second on the leaderboard. Everyone understood Brijith's position in first, he was the most popular out of the group, due to his sparking personality and because his cousin played for Kerala Blasters (Well, mainly for the latter) which meant that he got signed pictures and merchandise, but his cousin didn't like him enough to get him a season pass, which was why this competition was so important to him.

Whilst Arjun was thinking about the causes of the leader board conundrum, he was pressing the 'Request Friend' button on multiple accounts from Brijith's profile, hoping that he could gain some of his 'friends' to boost him up to second place. After he had requested everyone that he thought he would be accepted by, he turned back to his suggested friends feed and started searching through. Whilst he was tiresomely scrolling, one name popped up in front of him, like a glowing star, like a lighthouse in a sea of darkness, like a ray of sunshine in a cloud of intoxicating grey -
