"Guys bundle up.." I said. I watched as Belle helped her twin brother zip his jacket up and he did the same. Bria waited for us to finish and she helped me by grabbing one of my books.

"What do you guys wanna eat tonight?" I asked. It was Friday night, meaning we could pick up or order.

"Pizzaaaa" the twins said. I looked at Bria.

"Pizza okay?" I asked. She smiled and nodded. We went to my car and picked up dominos on the way home. After serving the kids, I heard a knock on the front door.

"Must be your fatherrr" I said to Bria. I made my way to the door, opening it I saw a smiling jack.

"Hey" he said. I smiled and leaned against the door.

"Hey" I replied.

"Bria just started eating. Wanna join? There's enough" I said. He smiled and nodded. I moved aside, inviting him in and locked the door behind him.

"Gimme your jacket" I said. He handed it to me, and I hung it up, leading him to the kitchen.

"Hi princess" he said, kissing Bria on her head. I watched as Belle watched they're every move, and I felt a pang of guilt because I knew she wouldn't experience that. Bria smiled up at him and continued to eat. I serve us both and we went to the living room since there wasn't any more room in the kitchen. We sat on my sofa and began eating silently.

"So I'm kinda nervous" he said.

"Why?" I asked.

"I have a date tonight, some girl from my cousins job.. I'm dropping Bria off at my moms.." he said. For some reason, my heart dropped.

"Have you not dated?" I asked. He shook his head.

"Not since Madison. I know it sounds personal, but I'd just hook up with people honestly. But my family thinks I need to "settle down" in their opinion" he said. I slowly nodded.

"Don't.. I'm sure it'll be.. great" I said looking at my plate.

Jacks POV
I watched as Lai's face dropped at the sound of me mentioning my date. Since I met her, we'd been out all the time because our kids are best friends.. we were starting to know each other.. and it may sound like a high school thing, but I was starting to crush on her. She was beautiful.. her tan skin.. beautiful black curls.. her hazel eyes with specks of green. The way her nose scrunched up when she found something funny. She was different. Focused on her kids, and career. Nothing more. She was giving and selfless. Bria loved her.. but I had no clue how she felt about me.. I was too terrified to make a move, simply because I didn't wanna ruin anything. Thus where the date came.

"Don't put pressure on it.. I'm sure it'll be.. great" she mumbled. I shrugged and helped her clean up.

"You can leave Bria here if you want. They wanna do a movie night so.." she said. I slowly nodded.

"I'll text my mom.. thanks Lai." I said. She smiled and nodded.

"Let me know how it goes " she said handing me my coat.

"I will.." I replied. I said good night to Bria, and she walked me to the front.

"Have fun.." she whispered. I turned and faced her

"I will" I whispered. I watched her face. Her eyes twinkled under the moonlight and she seemed sad. She noticed me starring and she looked at her hands shyly.

"Night jack" she said. I smiled a small smile.

"Night Lai.." i said, leaning in and kissing her cheek. She waited till I got in my car to shut her door which caused me to smile. I slowly pulled off, and contemplated on if I even wanted to go on the date.

(Still jacks POV)

I pulled up to this boujie ass restaurant. I hated fancy places, they made me nervous. I was meeting with.. shit what's her name. Rhonda? Rachel? Reese? I couldn't care less. Why did I agree to dinner. I already ate pizza with Lai.  I walked inside, and the host lead me to my table. A busty red head was already seated.

"Hi" I said smiling. She smiled

"Hi I'm Rachel" she said. I smiled back

"Jack" I replied. We began making small talk and the topic of kids came up.

"So do you like kids?" I asked. She scrunched her nose up.

"No.. not really..  do you?" She asked. I laughed nervously. Deal breaker for sure.

"I do. I have a daughter actually" I said. She got as red as her hair.

"Really? Oh wow how old is she?" She asked.

"She's 5." I said. I showed her my lock screen, which was a picture of Bria at the twins party with the twins.

"Her names Bria.. she's the ballerina wearing black. Those are her best friends" i said.

"Bria. Interesting name. She's cute" she said.

"Thank you." I replied blandly. Lai said Bria was a beautiful name. We continued making small talk, and she was overall pleasant. But I couldn't get Lai out of my head. I paid the bill, and we made our way out of the restaurant.

"Did you drive?" I asked. She shook her head.

"Uber." She replied.

"I can drive you" I said. She didn't argue. She followed me to my car, and I drove her home.

"Do you want to come in?" She asked. Her eyes were bright.

"Oh.. I don't know" I replied, laughing nervously.

"I don't bite" she said moving in. I felt myself slowly backing up. She placed her hand on my thigh and i fake sneezed.

"Oh excuse me" I said. She blushed and grabbed her purse

"Thank you for the dinner.." she said. I smiled and nodded.

"Of course" I replied. She kissed my cheek, her lip gloss felt sticky and gross on my face.

"Good night" she said.

"Good night" I replied. She got out, and I waited till she went inside before pulling off.

Consider it a date night fail.

When I got home, I got a message from Lai, and opened it. It was a picture of Bria with a face mask on. I smiled at it. I needed someone who loved my daughter like Lai did.

Correction. I needed Lai.
