"Hi Mrs. Dempsey is Zach home?" I asked as I stood in front of my one and only boyfriends house.
"He sure is, he's up in his room. Come on in" Mrs.Dempsey said as she opened the door to her house.
"You can go on up" she smiled softly as I thanked her and headed up to Zach's room.
"Hey it's Hannah, Hannah Baker" I heard as I opened the door to his room.
He jumped and pressed a button on the boom box he was listening to.
"Zach what the hell are you listening to?" I asked as I shut his bedroom door and rushed to his side.
"I don't know Indigo, someone left these at my door and I just began listening to it" he said while pulling me to sit down on his lap.
"I don't know what it is or why it's here but I think we should listen to it, they're numbered and this is number one" he said as he looked up at me.
"Zach she's dead, what could possibly be on these tapes?" I asked as tears entered my eyes.
"I don't know baby, but hey shhh it's okay" he said wiping the tears from my cheeks before tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.
"It's not okay Zach, she was my friend and she killed herself. How is that okay?" I asked as I continued to cry while looking down at him.
"It's not, it's not okay. Let's just listen okay?" He asked as he tried to calm me down.
I looked at his sympathetic eyes and nodded "okay" I said before taking a deep breath.
I stood up from his lap and grabbed the other chair he had.
I slid it over and sat next to him.
He looked at me and I nodded telling him I was okay.
He took a deep breath in before pressing play.
He grabbed my hand and intertwined our fingers.
"Don't adjust your, whatever device you're hearing this on. It's me, live and in stereo. No return engagements, no encore, and this time, absolutely no requests. Grab a snack, settle in. Because I'm about to tell you the story of my life, more specifically, why my life ended" Hannah's voice said through the boom box.
I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding in.
"And if you're listening to this tape, you're one of the reasons why. I'm not saying which tape brings you into the story. But fear not, if you received this lovely little box, your name will pop up. I promise" Hannah's voice continued.
I pressed the pause button and looked over to my boyfriend who had tears in his eyes.
"What the hell did you do Zach?"
This is chapter one of my new 13 Reasons Why story. Sorry the chapter is short, but I promise it will get better and longer once the story continues.
None of the characters belong to me except Indigo, all other characters belong to the 13 Reasons Why writers.
