In the eyes of Zane

"DADDY NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Blake and Alice went running to Josh's side. "daddy no." they said one more time while tears came to their eyes. "im sorry kids but your dad was a threat. i couldn't have that." Benny said while crouching down. "ya......... well this isn't the end!" i yelled from my house. "Ya." Blain agreed. "it won't ever be the end!" Benny looked at me like i was crazy. "really.......... well your leader is dead so id say it is..." Benny said "well guys lets get out of this shanty town."

They walked out of town guns in hand, not looking back, like they had just made a huge accomplishment. ya like shooting down a husband, father, and good friend down in cold blood is an accomplishment. Jess had fallen to her knees and was balling her eyes out. i walked over to Blain and said "it looks like its time to get the group back together. a?" he looked at the ground. then back up at me. he gave a weak nod of his head "ya" so i knew i had him.

-1 day later-

I walked up to Jess's door and knocked. i hit the door three times and then took a step back. After a few moments the door opened. Blake had opened the door. "Hey big guy where's mommy?" i asked he looked at me and then walked away from an open door. i walked in and followed him. He led me to a door all the way in the back. he pointed at it and then walked away.

I knocked a couple times. no response. a couple more. again nothing. so then i decided to kick in the door hoping that she had not given up. i rushed in and seen that she was sitting on her bed with a rope in one hand and nothing but palm in the other. I reached my hand toward her and said "its not wort it. you have kids that need a mother. and what would josh want you to do?"

She looked at her left hand that had nothing in it and said "ya you are right Zane... josh would want revenge... so lets go... he should only be a day away... isn't that why you came here, to ask me to join?" she looked up from her hand at me. i starred at her. just................ surprised. i did not think that she would have said all of that none the less what she said. "yes that is why i came. Blain is in. i can probably get a couple of the men if the law to join us too." She gave a chuckle.

But it wasn't normal. it was like she was sad. "whats wrong?" i asked "nothing." she said "its just that your humor reminds me of josh is all." She stood up and put the rope in he pocket with at least half hanging out. I looked at her and smiled. i knew she had made the right choice. the choice of strength or weakness. life or death.

"Alice,Blake come here!" she yelled. they came running in. apparently she had been in that room since yesterday. "pack up...... we are leaving." the kids looked at each other, with tears in their eyes, smiled and ran away. Jess went back into her room and grabbed a duffle bag. she stuffed it with clothes, a brush, and plenty of food. a couple of minutes later we were moving. we were leaving that last memory of josh besides his family.

I had decided to make a journal. it is a journal about his life. or a biography if you want to call it that. the only thing was is that he was only 24 when he died so the book was short. its called The Brother, The Father, The Friend. But any way we left the town to start back on the old life. all that decided to come is Jess and the kids, Blain, and me.

The people that did not know josh at all or was not exactly his best friend said "we dont want to die for a lost cause." i responded with "You think he is a lost cause because you are weak. you are not strong like me or Jess. you are the scum of this town which unfortunately makes up most of it." And i would walk away. i didnt say that to Nate and Cohen though because they said yes but after i said what i said they would punch me and we would end up in a fight.

But anyway we were out of Hope Trust. i wasnt happy about that since we were the ones who found and started the city but if it meant staying with all of those selfish bitches ya i was glad to be out of there. I know Jess isn't happy because now she doesn't have shelter for her kids. But in this new world there is no shelter. no matter if there is a few walls between you and 10 raiders they will find you and either sell you to slavers or if your lucky they will kill you.

But we left on a good cause. one that the rest of those city slickers didn't understand. one that only family could get. and with all that we had been through josh and i............we are brothers...
