We got onto the main road
to the other side of the country. everywhere there are destroyed cars that looked like they had people attempt to salvage them. Jess came up behind me and put here arms around me and put her head on my left shoulder. i turned and looked at her and smiled. she smiled back at me.

We just continued walking down the highway. She stayed wrapped around me for a while before she let go and checked on the kids. i think i remind her of Josh to much. i believe she is starting to see him in me. i dont like it............. i mean i do, ive always thought she was beautiful but she has always been with josh, but i dont like that she likes me for Josh.

But now that Josh is dead i dont know if i can......... if i can take her away from him. i will just have to talk to her when we have time alone.
"Zane!" Blain said "whats up man?" he asked "what do you mean?" I said with a look of suspicion "i mean whats up with you and Jess?" he said "she had been staying awful close to you." he said

I looked at him with a blank face. "i dont know." i said "she told me that i remind her of Josh." he looked at me with disbelief "i dont believe that for a second." he said "you are nothing like josh." i felt disappointed.
in all the time that we had been traveling together i thought we would be better friends but apparently not.

"Blain," i said "i thought we were better friends than this." he looked at me with a surprised face. "you thought we were friends?" he asked "no we are no where near friends. the only reason i am here is for Jess." i just thought about that for a moment. "no
Your not." i said while looking at the ground.

I looked up. "you're only here so you have help to get to Vegas so you can gamble all of your caps away."
He looked dumbfounded. "fine." he said with a long pause. "you want me gone" another long pause. "ill just leave you and Jess to be alone. that the way you wanted it anyway." i just stared at him while he walked off.

I walked back to the camp where Jess and the kids where staying. i told her everything that was said and what the result was.
"I....... i always thought that Blain was a good guy........ now i see what his true intensions were." She just gazed into my eyes. i looked away. "whats wrong?" she asked. "nothing." i said "i just want to get back on the trail." She looked at me and smiled.

But there was something wrong. the fact that i was basically Josh's brother and now i have the chance to steal his wife.
I didnt like that feeling. ya i liked Jess and wished i could be with her, but those were the vault days. when Josh was still here and life was easy. out here anything can happen at any time. you just have to be in the right place at the right time for something good to happen.

But anywhere bad things would happen at anytime.
I wish we were still in the vault. where i could fantasize about have Jess as my wife and we could have kids. but here i have to fantasize about eating. That kind of thing just shows that this is going to be a long road.
