Eli's point of view:
The door of my bedroom shuts loudly. I expect to hear Emily crying but I hear nothing. She is silent and that scares the shit out of me.
To be completely truthful, Emily was wrong. I wouldn't have stayed with her if I didn't want the baby. The dick-head characteristic in me would never have let me stay on a good conscience. I loved Emily to death and I loved my daughter just as much. I wasn't going to let Vanessa being a manipulative bitch get in the way. I was a huge family man, believe it or not, and no one was messing with my family without getting through me first.
I didn't know what to do from here. Emily was really upset but I didn't know how to nurture it. I suppose the best thing to do was to go in there and tell her the truth. But I knew she wouldn't believe me, and it would take major convincing for her to realize Vanessa was lying. Still, I walked to the door and knocked lightly on it.
"Emily? Are you going to let me in?" I asked. There was no response. I knocked again.
"Honey, please don't ignore me." I said. I wanted to hear her beautiful voice talking to me. That voice she had could get me to do anything she wanted me to do. I would kill for her if she so desired.
"Eli just leave me alone." She whimpers. She almost sounds weak when she says it, as if she is strained to the point of exhaustion.
"Emily, please, I don't want to do it like this. Just let me in. You don't have to talk, just listen." I said to her through the door. It's quiet for a few terrifying seconds until the door unlocks and she opens in. Her eyes are puffy and stained with tears. She looks up at my face with sadness and my heart almost shatters at the sight of it.
"Baby, don't cry or you'll make me cry." I said to her. She sniffles and looks to the ground. I slip a strand of her hair behind her ear, something I always did when I was intimate with her. She loved it when I did it.
"Eli, I'm sorry I freaked out but how do I know what you say is true?" She asked. I hated seeing her like this, it made me want to hold her and take her away from everything for just a little while.
"All you have for judgement is my words, Emily, but I assure you they are the most sincere they have ever been. I love you, Emily, both you and the baby. I hope you know that if you ever left I would literally die. Yes, I mean literally. There is never a day or night I don't worry about you deciding to step out and find yourself a better man, because truth be told I don't deserve you. I proposed to you because I love you so much and if you left I wouldn't have anything left. I need you and our daughter." I said to her. She remained speechless for a few unbearable seconds before she finally spoke.
"Do you really mean that?" She asked. I was amazed she would ask such a question. I would never lie like that, everything I said was undeniable.
"I wouldn't have said it if I didn't." I replied. She doesn't say anything back but she takes my hands in hers and stands on her toes to kiss me.
"Now that that's all sorted and settled,
I have something to tell you." She said to me. Wow! It was over quickly, but something else was on her mind and she seemed pretty serious about it.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Well, Norman gave me another ultrasound yesterday. Remember you couldn't be there because of work?" She asked. I nodded.
"I recall. Is everything okay?" I asked. She nodded.
"Well, it depends how you take it. It's a bit...unexpected." She replied. I was a bit shaken when she said this. I was afraid something had happened to my daughter.
