Chapter 7- Jack Lorah, Murdered

Sophia's P.O.V.

What? What did the officer just say? My dad? Murdered? Everyone loved my dad. Who could have possibly killed him???? I was standing on my porch, Cody next to me, the officer across. "How?" I asked, to no one specifically. "Well, He had knife wounds and some bruises. That is all we know right now. We think the attacker came from behind and then Jack turned around. We think Jack saw the knife and started to try to get away. Then there was a fight. He had bruises around his body. And his body was near a phone. There was a trail of blood. We think he dragged him self to the phone. Then the attacker sliced his throat. He died from injuries and loss of blood." The officer replied.

I stared blankly at nothing for about 2 minutes, then I started to cry. I turned into Cody's chest so no one could see my face. He rubbed my back and was whispering things into my ear. I didn't hear an of it though. I heard the officer walk to the other officers. I pulled away from Cody and looked up at him. I saw some stray tears on his face too. He looked down at me. We were sitting on a chair on the porch now. "I'm so sorry Sophie." Cody said starting to cry. "I know, me too......" I replied.

"Sophia Lorah?" I heard. I turned and saw the officer from earlier. "Yeah?" I replied. "Since you don't know your mother. And don't have any family members......." He trailed off. "Yes, you don't have to remind me that I have no family and MY FATHER IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I said screaming at the end. I stood up, walked of the porch and started to walk down the block. I heard footsteps behind me. I knew it was Cody. He grabbed my hand from behind and hugged me. Then I looked up at him and kissed him. We were standing there, my arms around his neck and his hands on my waist, kissing. Too soon an officer, the same one as before came. "I'm sorry Sophia about what I said earlier........ I meant to say, do you have a place to stay?" He asked. I completely forgot about that. I looked at Cody in desperation. He winked.

"Um.... I-I need to call Matt." Cody said with a wink. He walked away. I looked at the officer. He raised an eyebrow waiting for an answer. "Ummm" I said in desperation "Sweetie, If you have no where to go you will have to go to a foster family until I can contact someone." The officer told me. Cody walked back over. "Hey, sorry about that. What were we talking about?" Cody asked as he put his one arm around my waist. Looking irritated the officer said "I asked Sophia if she had a place to stay. " I had to giggle. I couldn't help it. The officer looked at me, and then looked away. "Of course." said Cody "She can stay at my house. My parents won't mind." He finished. The officer asked Cody if he could talk to his parents. Cody gave the officer his phone. The officer walked away talking on the phone.

"Sophia, you will be staying with Cody and his family." The officer said as he returned. He looked some-what irritated. Almost like he was mad I was staying with Cody. "YAY" I screamed, I jumped and hugged Cody. I was crying, once again. "Ohmygosh" I heard the officer whisper under his breath. I couldn't believe that the officer was actually letting me stay with Cody. I felt kinda bad though. I hadn't really meet Cody's parents yet and they were letting me stay with them. "Cody, your parents barley know me. Why would they let me stay at your house?" I asked him. "Because," Cody simply answered. Trust me, I wasn't about to push him into telling me.

I walked over to an officer. "When will I be able to go inside and get my clothing, and things?" I asked him. He thought for a moment then replied saying "I am not sure sweetie. We need to take pictures,clean up and some other things. At the least you will be able to go back in the house in 2 days." My mouth dropped. TWO DAYS???? I need MY clothing and make-up. I don't want to have to use Alli's everyday. I walked away from the officer, and walked back over to Cody. He had tears on his face once again. I didn't understand why, he never met my dad. Cody never even saw him. "Cody, why are you crying?" I asked him. "It hurts me to see you this upset Sophie, and he is your dad of course I am going to be upset if something happens to him. I know I never met him but, I'm still sad to know that I never will." He told me. I didn't know what to do, so I hugged him.

"Do you want me to call my mom so she can pick us up?" Cody asked me. I nodded my head. He called his mom. When he hung up he said she would be here in about 8 minutes. When the car pulled up and Cody and I were getting in I heard "You can't leave you miss. We need to talk to you." I turned around. Another police officer. I got out of the car. "Hello, I'm Officer Long" the officer said. "Sophie" I told her. She nodded. "Was there anyone that didn't like your dad? Or ever threatened him?" Officer Long asked me. "No, everyone my dad ever met loved him. He was a huge flirt." I replied smiling, remembering things. "No ex-girlfriends or anything" Officer Long asked me. "My mom. She had an ex-husband. She left him for my dad." I said remembering things my father once tod me. "Do you know names?" She asked. I shook my head, "No." I told her. "Did anyone besides you and your dad have a key to the house? Did you have any keys outside?" Officer Long questioned me. "No one." I replied. She asked me, "Is your dad seeing anyone?" I had to think. I never asked him about that. "No. No one I know of. He always hopped my mother would come back." I told her. She finally let me leave.

"Thanks for waiting for me to finish all the questioning Mrs.Simpson" I said as I got back into the backseat of the car. I sat right next to Cody. "No problem sweetie, and please, call me Angie. I hope you like stayig with us." Angie said. Oh yeah, I forgot I was staying with Cody. "Thank you so much for letting me stay with you." I said to Angie. "Your welcome." Angie said. After that, we were silent the whole ride home.

"OhMyGosh!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe your gonna be stayin with us!!!!!!!!!!" Alli screamed as soon as she saw me walk through the front door. She ran over and hugged me. "Don't worry, you can use my things until you are able to go get yours." Alli told me. "Ohh, and I heard about you and Cody......" Alli said smiling and she winked. I haven't been able to talk, Alli keeps talking. I smiled when she mentioned Cody. "Hi Alli, nice to see you too. Yeah my day was good, how about you." I replied sarcastically. We both laughed.

"So this is where you will be staying." Alli said opening the door to the guest bedroom. It was bigger than my bedroom at home. Atleast three times the size and the bathroom atached to it was the size of my old bedrom. And my bedrom at my house was big. The downfall was that everything was white. "My mom said you can paint it if you want to. You can change everything." Alli said. "Good," I laughed, "Maybe tomorrow we can pick somethings out." I said. She nodded her head and left the room. It was late, almost midnight. I layed down on the bed and within minnutes I fell asleep.
