Sunlight flooded through the windows, lighting up the room. A stray beam shone on Frost's face, waking her up. She leapt out of the bed and raced over to the cat flap in the wall that led outside, "I'll be back" she muttered to her sister as she crawled through to the outside world. The leaf-fall air was crisp and damp, bird song filled Frost's ears. Dead leaves crunched and crackled beneath her paws as she ventured into the unknown. There were trees as far as the eye could see and not a two-leg in sight. The trees seemed to grow with every step Frost took, they were magnificent. Tall and wise pines reached to the sky, and on the largest tree sat a mighty hawk surveying its territory. She stared at it with curiosity, wondering why the hawk was this close to two-leg place. The hawk caught sight of Frost, staring her down, never once taking it's eyes off her. It's cold stare sent shivers down the she-cat's spine as it let out a startling screech. Frost slowly backed away but the hawk kept glaring at her while stretching it's wings as if preparing for a chase. I'm doomed, if I run I'll be chased, if I stay I'll be snatched up. The hawk dove off the branch, launching its self at the white cat. In a panic, Frost sprinted into the woods but the hawk was sharp and continued to chase her. The young she-cat ran for her life, narrowly avoiding the tree trunks surrounding her. She took every chance she could at getting that hawk off her trail but nothing was working, all she could do now is run and hope for the best. While the she-cat was running, it started to rain. Soon enough she was drenched and so was the forest floor, making it more difficult to run. The soggy dead leaves were as slick as oil, and Frost lost her footing and slammed into a tree. When she came to a few seconds later, the hawk was lunging at her face, hoping to finish it. Frost flailed around and caught the hawk's eye with her claw. It screamed in pain and she took her chance and sprinted off, further into the woods. Still disoriented from the run in with a tree, her legs wobbled as she ran further and further into the woods. The she-cat realized that she hadn't heard screeches, I must've lost it she thought, thinking she was safe, she slowed to a tired walk. Out of breath, Frost stopped and realized that she didn't recognize anything. "I've never been this far into the woods before" she muttered, "where am I?" she turned around, "w-which way is home?" The she-cat soon realized that she was lost in a foreign place in the middle of a storm. "Great, now I'm never going to see Lexi again, or eat tuna and sardines and warm milk" she cried. The white cat let out a long sigh, "well, I guess I better find shelter". Frost continued to walk further into the woods, hoping to find somewhere to take cover until the storm passed. After what felt like days of walking, Frost found a tunnel under a dead tree stump. It was cozy and dry and Frost being the curious cat she is, decided to check it out. She squeezed down the tight tunnel, her white pelt was now brown from the mud and dirt. This isn't too bad, she thought, it'll have to do until the storm passes. The trees were swaying in the wind, creaking and groaning. Thunder roared and lightning flashed. "Thank goodness I found this tunnel" she exclaimed. Just as she tucked herself into the tunnel a foul smell hit Frost in the face, stinging her nose. Out of the blue, something grabbed her tail. She yelped and scrambled to get out of the tunnel but the thing was dragging her back into the dark, damp hole. She kicked her back legs hoping to dislodge the creature from her tail, but it kept holding on. She kicked harder and harder, the creature let out a painful yelp, letting go of her tail. Frost wriggled her way out of the tunnel and ran as fast and far as her little legs could carry her. Lightning soared across the sky, casting shadows through the canopy of trees. There was a crack and an ominous boom, a tree fell right in front of the terrified cat. "Eek!" She yelped and B-lined for an opening in the trees. Sprinting for the opening, a mighty oak tree started to fall. Desperate to escape, she ran faster, trying to out run its falling branches. Everything went black, thunder clapped, branches snapped, rain pounded the ground. She opened her eyes, she was alive! But the trees were still falling. She got to her feet and kept running. The trees were getting smaller and smaller, lightning lit up the horizon, she was at the edge of the forest. "Which way is home?" She questioned "right or left?". Another tree fell right behind her. Startled, she ran to the left. The storm was getting closer each second. The small silhouettes of houses started popping up on the horizon. Two-leg place! She was almost home, but as she got closer there was an orange glow. A gust of warm air blew in her face, pushing her fur back. Ashes fluttered in the air, something was burning. The outline of a house was covered in flames, it was her's. "Lexi!" She screamed. She bolted towards the house, desperate to find her sister.
