It only took about three-thousand-three-hundred-and-thirty miles for the Beaumont family to arrive in America. They were a family of good fortune and power. The family pretty much had everything they always wanted. Fame, money, power, there was nothing they didn't have.
The father of the family, Darren Beaumont, was a celebrity icon in Manchester. He made countless pounds on movie deals, commercial advertisements, and modeling jobs that his wife did. He married his wife Sonya Beaumont for her looks, she married him for his money. They had now become the famous power couple of Manchester looking to expand their fame and wealth in America.
Darren Beaumont was a handsome man when he was younger. He had golden blond hair and bright grey eyes. A lot of girls fell for him when he was a younger lad. He gained fame at a young age from his father before him. It was toxic. Gaining fame at a young age caused Darren to become selfish and greedy. Stealing hearts left and right, buying the richest things he wanted. One day he settled down, met his beautiful wife, and had three daughters and one son.
Their oldest daughter, Rose, was a model stepping in her mother's footsteps. She wanted to swoon over boys and rule the media. She defiantly had the looks to be a model, golden blonde locks like her father. However, she also had her father's greed and hunger. She was pushy, and also got what she wanted.
Their second daughter, Crystal, wasn't too good either. She was mesmerized by money. Everything having to do with gold or riches caught her eyes. She was the whole rich life package. She had good looks, a fake attitude, and all the money she wanted. She was a media type girl, running their families accounts and working in keeping their imagines clean. It was almost like she was their own PR department. Crystal looked more like her mother than her father. Dark brown hair, brown eyes, a curvy body. She was so in love with herself that Rose and Crystal would fight over who's better looking.
Then there was their son, Luke. He was the youngest of all of his siblings and was innocent compared to Crystal and Rose, only because he was still just a young boy in his early teens. He was more ignored than Crystal and Rose. It was like they were spoiled and given attention by their parents but he wasn't. He could've gotten lost at the park and his parents wouldn't notice. It didn't bother him though, he got used to it. He was an adventurous boy born into the wrong family. He had blond hair like his father but not his father's personality.
Then, there was their third daughter, Julia. She was nothing like her family. Julia had the ambition and mental strength as a boxer. She was a strong young woman with aspirations spewing out of her mind. She dreamed of teaching children and reading. Her family thought it was crazy that she wanted that instead of money and fame. However, Julia found it even more odd her own family could be controlled by money.
Her sisters would be taking pictures of themselves while Julia would be reading a book. It was such a toxic way a family was raised but Julia dealt with it. Julia wasn't like her family but she did have one thing in common no one could deny. It was her beauty. She wasn't as pretty as her sisters or mother. She was even more beautiful. She looked more of a mix of her mother and father. She had light brown hair and brown eyes with hints of green, making them gorgeous hazel eyes. Her sisters were jealous of Julia's looks, it was the only way to have respect from her family.
Most of the Beaumont family wasn't too excited for their trip to America. Crystal complained the whole flight there. However, Julia was excited. She wanted some adventure in her life and this was the best way, going to another county. She knew she wasn't going to fit in very well. It didn't help that her family was one of the most powerful in England, but also her own self wouldn't fit in. She didn't know much about America. The people, how they dressed, if they acted differently than back at home. Julia had a thick Manchester accent like the rest of her family, she was going to stick out in the crowd.
They were on a private jet, to avoid any unnecessary attention, Darren didn't care much for his fans. It was a roomy jet. Lounges, televisions hanging from the walls, big, beautiful windows to be looked out of. It was a lot more than the average person could ask for. Of course it still wasn't enough for Julia's pushy sisters. They complained and didn't really care for why they had.
The whole plane ride Julia read her book or looked out of the window wishing desperately to land. She was reading Self-Reliance. It was one of her all time favorite books that allowed her to escape her wealth life. Reading and dreaming was valuable time to her. The book she was rereading for the fourth time was about exactly what the title said, self-reliance. She didn't really let her guard down around many people anymore, she was independent because of her family and didn't care what others thought.
There was a loud slam from the back of the jet. Julia ignored it and kept reading her book. It was getting to a good part and Julia was getting deep into thought with her book until the sound got louder. As Julia lost focus on her book the sound got more recognizable, it was Crystal yelling at her father. Julia wanted something to laugh at so she took her eyes off her book and turned her ears to the noise to listen.
"Are you kidding me? So when we land we're going to Breesport? Why can't we go to Boston or something nicer?" Crystal yelled complaining once again about where they were going. It bothered Julia so much that she can be so pushy and bossy and still have respect.
"Yes Crystal. Our house there is waiting for us, it was the cheapest and biggest house I could find with good offers. Stop complaint and sit down," her father replied saying quietly like he was annoyed with Crystals ignorant comments.
"Dad, all the hot American boys are definitely not in Breesport," she snickered being even more ignorant than before. "Please can we go to Boston or something."
"Crystal..." he sighed, "please sit down."
She rolled her eyes and walked away from her father to sit with Rose. Luke was on his cell phone texting his friends back in Manchester. Julia quietly laughed to herself and put her eyes back on her book. She started to read and escape her reality again. The pages in the book started to consume her mind and allowed her to think. A smile crept on her face as she focused in on the story. She got through three pages until she heard another loud, interruption. She sighed and looked up from her book seeing Luke running around. Crystal and Rose were giggling on. Their phones in the back and her mother was asleep. Julia was about to get frustrated until she saw it was Luke interrupting her. He was the only family member that didn't drive her insane.
She smiled at Luke and lifted up her finger to get his attention. He stopped running around and looked at her. He had a confused look on his face.
"Luke," she whispered with her Manchester accent strong in her voice, "I'm trying to read do you mind going over there?"
"Can you read to me Julia?" he asked sweetly raising his eyebrows.
She smiled at the thought. Luke wasn't like Julia, but he certainly wasn't a prisoner to wealth either. Anytime Luke did something remotely like Julia, she felt proud. It seemed as if she was doing a better job raising her brother more than her parents were. After all, Julia taught Luke how to do a lot of things like using a washer and dryer, writing checks, and having manners.
Luke was twelve, he could read perfectly on his own thanks to Julia. However, the book Julia was reading was more difficult for him and he loved it when she read to him. Luke wasn't the only one who loved hearing Julia's voice, it was a beautiful tone no matter her mood. She was a fantastic reader, writer, and teacher. Luke wanted to be more like her.
"Sure. I'll read to you," she smiled ruffling her fingers through his messy blond hair. He laughed and pushed her hand away, "let me go get my suitcase and I'll grab an easier book you'll actually understand."
"Sounds good. Thank you."
Julia put her metal bookmark in her book. It was a special book mark that she used for every book she read. Her old best friend back at home gave it to her and she fell in love it it. It was a sliver metal plate that had, "Free your mind," engraved into it. After she set the bookmark in the book, she sat it down and got up from her seat. Luke sat down in the seat next to hers to wait for her. She walked down the aisle to find her suitcase, she had one devoted to clothes and another to books. She moved her hands around in one of the shelves. Finding the suitcase, she unzipped the top and found one of Luke's favorites. She picked up the book and smiled to herself thinking of it. She put the suitcase back and closed the cabinet. As she started to walk away, Rose called out something Julia is used to hearing.
"Bookworm! Do you mind having a little fun on this gods forsaken plans ride?"
Julia rolled her eyes, "Maybe if you took those earbuds out of your head, sat up, and picked up a book yourself...you'd have fun too."
Rose sat up and put her earbuds down, obeying Julia. She glared at Julia with hatred in her eyes. "Maybe you'd have a boyfriend if you stopped putting your nose in books and tried."
Julia laughed at the thought, "Me have a boyfriend? That's a funny joke, almost as funny as you dating someone that's not a complete egotistical-full-of-himself-dirtbag."
Rose was out of insults at of that point and sat back down crossing her arms in frustration. Julia was proud of herself. She knew that looks with low intelligence always loses. Julia practically skipped back to her seat with joy filling her. Luke was where she left him and he smiled at the sight of her. He stood up and left Julia get into her window seat while he got the isle.
Julia picked up the book and glanced at Luke. She grinned at his eagerness and he scooted closer to her. She flipped through the pages getting to where they left off last time. She took a deep breath and glanced at Luke again.
"It's been awhile since we read this, do you want me to start over?" she asked softly careful not to wake her parents across from her.
"No thank you," he smiled and shut his eyes slowly, "Continue from where we were please."
"Alright sir," she joked. She placed her finger down to find where they were last time. She cleared her throat and began to speak.
"She dashed into the night running from all the men she would disappoint. Too many people wanted her to be their wife. But she couldn't stand that sight. She would rather marry a slippery snake shedding than carry on with a gross man's wedding."
Luke giggled at that part and Julia snickered at the humor. Her little brother and her had a similar sense in humor. Not dirty humor nor dark humor, but simple, easy humor. Luke repositioned himself closer to Julia. She grinned and put one arm around him. She loved her brother and would protect him from anyone, including their parents and siblings. Going to a new town, her brother was all she really had.
"...She then found a quiet cottage that night. From all the gentlemen collars that gave her a fright. Frustrated, she sat down and took off her leather boots. She looked around the house there was treasure, gold, lots of loot. However, the young girl didn't care for riches for her. She explored more and saw a kitten in the corner of the room that began to purr. The young girl knew that even though she wasn't appreciated like she wanted to be, one day things would be different. Once more looked at the kitten. Her future would bright no matter what were to happen."
Julia stopped reading and couldn't help but smile. She would purposely read this to Luke to try and teach him something without being so direct. Learning lessons on your own is important but guiding someone to them is great too. Julia always thought that, especially with helping Luke grow up.
"I wish a lot more people were like the girl in the book," Luke sighed practically reading Julia's mind.
Julia smiled at his comment and nodded her head, "Luke, buddy...I wish a lot more people were like you."
Luke then, mocking her nod, shook his head, "Sis, I wish more people were more like you."
Julia laughed, "Only in our dreams."
As Julia continued to read, Luke kept listening. As Crystal would complain, Rose would blast her earbud music. As their mother, Sonya would sleep, Darren, their father would snore. They weren't far from America. As soon as they landed, Julia's adventure would begin.
