Jack was gone when Gabe woke up. He was alone in the room and he no longer wanted a single room at all. He wasn't sure if he regretted dating Jack, or if he regretted ever talking to him at all.  He wondered if he was feeling the same right now.
But probably not.
Jack was most likely angry as hell, and he had full right to be. Gabe shouldn't have done the dares. It was stupid to do that to a person. What had he even been thinking? that he'd just never find out? that it'd never work in the first place? More likely, it was he never expected it to get this far. He should have known it would get so competitive, that's how it always was between him and Amelie. The difference being she was now having breakfast with her ex-roommate and he was now avoiding his ex-boyfriend.
He groaned and rolled over in the bed so her faced the wall. He had to say something, but he was never very good at saying things. Sorry seemed to little, but what else? He was stupid, yes, but that wasn't enough. What would he say? what could he do? He got out of bed and got ready for his next class.
He sat down and Jesse sat next to him. "How's your day been?" he asked. Gabe glared at him. "Having troubled with blondie?"
"How would you even know about that?"
"Lets see, you didn't go to any classes yesterday, I saw you sulking around campus, and not to mention I overheard your fight across the parking lot." Gabe groaned.
"God, you're everywhere."
"That's what i'm told. Anyway, what's your plan?"
"Why would i ever tell you?"
"I'm a born romantic," he was more or a flirt than anything, but Gabe let him finish, "It pains me to see what was once a happy couple fall out. So tell me, what happened?"
Class didn't start for another few minutes, and Gabe guessed it would be nice to get another opinion.
"I dated him because of a dare."
"That's it?" Jesse snorted. Gabe glared at him. "Sorry, geez."
"It was more like...everything we did was a dare. Every date, our first kiss, it was all sort of...planned by someone else to win a bet."
"That is pretty bad."
"You are unbelievably unhelpful."
"Alright, fine. You messed up bad here. But you love him don't you?"
"Of course I do."
"Then you have to explain yourself, i mean, really think why did you take these bets? Why did the person do these bets?"
"We're competitive-"
"There's probably more to it than that."
With that, class started and Gabe couldn't focus at all.
Immediately after class he tracked down
Amelie, who was just leaving her own class. "Did you talk to him?"
"No, but i'm going to. I just need to know something. Really quick just answer this for me." she nodded, "Why did you keep giving me Jack-related dares?"
She thought for a moment, than shrugged, "I suppose it's because you kept giving me Lena ones." his heart sunk, that just meant he was more of the bad guy. "But, if you want more than that, you have always needed a push, Gabriel. You never would have kissed him, never would have asked him out. You just needed some motivation, and you are very competitive."
"Thanks, Amelie."
she patted his shoulder, "Go talk to him." he nodded and went back to their dorm to wait, in his mind he rehearsed was he was going to say.
