Ahomana's POV
OBVIOUSLY THAT WAS dumb, saying the monster's name when the monster was less than twenty metres away.
The huge beast snapped it head around, growling. The whispering started again, and I saw vague, smoking green figures of women flitting around the gigantic dog. I realised they were nymphs, trying to calm Cerberus so he didn't destroy their trees.
"Ok first question, what the hell is he doing in the mortal world?" Thysía waved his sword at Cerberus, "He should be guarding the Underworld!"
At the word Underworld, all three heads cocked to the side and stuck out their tongue like Underworld? tasty ghosts?
"Ok we need to send him back to Tartarus." I lifted my spear into an attack position.
"Wait, Hawaii boy." Dallas reached out from Chrysós's back and put her hand on my spear, "He doesn't look aggressive."
"Nani, he's the guardian of the Underworld." I pulled my spear from her grip, "How could he not be aggressive."
"Look at him."
I did. And honestly I thought Dallas was right. I clenched my teeth. "So what are we gonna do with him then? He's got to go back home."
"He's here for a reason." Thysía spoke up, "We just have to figure out what it is."
"If Hades is up to something..." My voice trailed off. Of Hades was up to something, it couldn't be more scary than going to kill a Titan and a few thousand monsters.
Cerberus' left head opened its giant maw and a rolled up white thing covered in dog saliva fell out.
Dallas nudged Chrysós forwards, and I gaped at her. "Oi, you're going to get yourself killed."
"It's ok Hawaii boy." She chuckled, before dismounting and picking up the white thing.
"That," Thysía said forcefully, "Is disgusting."
"Uaʻae, Thysía, uaʻae." I agreed.
"Hey guys it's a scroll." Dallas said excitedly.
"And why is that good news?" I grumbled, but curiosity won me over and I walked over to read it.
She held it out for Thysía and I to see. It was in Greek.
Ημίθεους, βρείτε μου σε DOA Ηχογραφήσεις στο Λος Άντζελες. Η ζωή σας θα εξαρτηθεί από αυτό. Κύριος Άδη.
"Demigods, find me at DOA Recordings in Los Angeles. Your lives will depend on it. Lord Hades." I read aloud, "Well, that's not good."
"DOA Recordings?" Dallas frowned.
"The entrance to the Underworld." I explained, "Trust me, not a nice place."
"This means we have to take a detour. That could take us an extra day." Thysía said quietly.
"Like I said, this is not good."
•••
Cerberus disappeared. When we looked back at him he was gone. I guess he was back to guarding ghosts.
We decided that staying in these woods would be a very bad idea, considering Cerberus probably attracted every monster in the area. So we packed up our sleeping bags and started to walk.
Let me tell you, the mosquitos in Pennsylvanian forest were bad.
"If I get bitten one more time I'm going to scream." I growled, smacking the back of my my neck.
