Y/N'S POV
I rubbed my dirtied hands on my jeans and waved my hands in front of my face to keep the smoke away from my mouth. I walked backward in a coughing fit and pulled my mask off my eyes. The 'guard dog' had a malfunction and I was trying to fix it up.
"Damn thing blew," I mumbled angerly.
"You done yet in here? You've been out here all afternoon," Cade wandered into the barn with a tray of food.
I wiped my dirtied face off with the handkerchief that had been tied around my neck and grabbed a grape that was on the tray and popped it in my mouth. All afternoon, as Cade said, I have been sticking my nose in gears and wires trying to fix this dumb RoboDog up.
"Sorry, I'm just really focused on fixing this dumb dog." I sighed pinching the bridge of my nose.
"Are you sure you want to stay out here? I have to go somewhere and Tess will stay here anyways so the RoboDog won't be too important." Cade informed, picking up a grape for himself.
I plucked it out of his fingers and popped it into my mouth,"Where do you wanna go?"
Cade grumbled and grabbed another one off the tray and popped it into his own mouth,"Some worn down theater that might have some spare scraps. Maybe you can find some things to help you with the RoboDog."
"You had me at spare scraps, let's go!" I jumped up.
I ran out of the barn and towards the car after turning off the blowtorch.
"Y/N, where are you guys going?" Tessa asked while I and Cade jumped in the truck.
"Picking up some scraps to fix the-" Cade was cut off by Tess.
"Some invention of yours, ok ok..." Tess grumbled.
"Hey, don't be like that." Cade said, resting his hands on Tessa's shoulders.
"I just wish that you'd leave this fairy tale and get a real job." Tess whispered,"You're putting these inventions first, not your family."
"I love you Tessa, you are the most important thing in the world to me," Cade sighed, putting his forehead to Tess's.
Meanwhile, I'm sitting in the truck watching everything take place. Cade kissed her forehead and jumped into the drivers seat. I was sitting in the passenger side smiling like an idiot at the beauty of his love for Tess.
"Be back soon, by Tess!" We drove away with Tessa sitting on the front porch.
~
"Hey Y/N, check this out," Cade mumbled, walking towards an old truck.
"Look at the size of that hole in the radiator, it's unbelievable," I gawked at the giant mess.
"You know what else is an unbelievable size? My-" I cut Lucas off by chucking a football at his forehead that had been laying on the ground.
"What was that for baby?" Lucas asked, putting his hands up in defeat.
"Just shut the hell up," I hissed, focusing back on the truck.
It had been blown very bad and while inspecting it closely, I rubbed my hand across the hood. The paint had been rusted away and many bullet holes had been imbedded into the metal. It was rusted to shit to say the least.
"What happened to you?" I whispered to myself.
"Imagine how much this would be worth if we could fix this up! And if we can't, look at all the scrap we could use! This could be a game changer, Y/N!" Cade whisper shouted to me, admiring the truck.
With a slight nod and the words,"Sounds good," Cade asked the question I was so excited to hear.
"How much for the truck?" Cade asked the man.
I smiled happily at the thought of fixing up the truck. If I could- IMAGINE how much I could sell this thing for! And if I could fix the paint job, well... I can't describe how awesome it would be!
"Truck?"
~
"What the hell?!" Tessa asked, running outside.
"Park it right here!" Cade called, and the tow truck slowed to a halt.
"Are you crazy?! How much money did this cost?!" Tess called.
I rolled my eyes at her screaming and Lucas spoke up,"A hundred and fifty dollars of it, and by 'it' I mean me and Y/N's money..."
"Dad, this is crazy!"
"Honey, please do not get between the employer and the employee." Cade put his hand out as if signaling to stop her and she groaned.
"Tess, we could make so much money off this truck!" I called.
"Are you encouraging this?!" She asked me.
"It was actually her idea," Lucas mumbled.
"Well, what are we waiting for? This truck won't ever be fixed up if we're just sitting around yelling." I said with a cheeky smile.
"Y/N's right, what are we waiting for?!" Cade smiled along side me and walked into the barn, with me on his tail.
