The news spreaded fairly quickly throughout Lakeland and my school. News channels were arriving by the dozen to catch the horrific story. The next day me and my dad were sent to stay a couple of days in a hotel in town while detectives covered and inspected the crime scene. My weekend turned upside down due to that event but I didnt let that stop me from enjoy the rest of my weekend. That Sunday I decided to investigate more and see if I could figure out who that leg belonged to and who put it there. I sat on the bed and searched around the LLPD (Lakeland Police Department) website and manage to find a list of the missing girls' names. 5 names, 0 bodies found until today; "Mariah Kanter, 18 y/o senior from Lakeland High School was reportedly found dead just 2 miles outside of town in nearby woods. Authorities say they found her body parts scattered throughout the woods and are doing further investigation on the case." I thought to myself, who could have done this? Could it have been somebody from town that does the killing(s) and just dump the bodies in the woods? My heart began to pound as more terrible and terrible thoughts raced through my mind. Suddenly, my phone began to ring; it was a call from my dad. "Sweetheart?"
"Yes dad?"
"The detectives just called me from work, we have to go in and speak with them. I'm on my way to pick you up right now."
"Okay."
Pulling up to the station, there was 3 officers waiting in the parking lot for us. They escorted us inside the station into seperate rooms. The detective spoke with my dad first then made his way to the room I was in.
"So, Jessica, what happened that night you guys found the body part?"
"Me and my dad was throwing a get-together party for the weekend to relax and unwind for a bit. I was tensed from all the work throughout the school week and wanted to relax and do something fun. We were in the house playing Uno until we heard a loud scream from out the door and thats when we seen the body part."
"Where was your dad before the incident?"
"To be honest, I don't know. Everyone was having fun and enjoying themselves so I really wasn't paying attention to him."
"Hmmm, okay. Well thats all, thank you."
As we walked back to the car, my dad had a muggy look his face. I never seen that look before so I questioned it; "Are you okay dad? You look a little angry...."
"They were questioning me like I had something to do with it!!! They're really trying to make me a suspect because they found the parts in a area around our cabin..."
"If you know you didn't do it, you shouldn't be upset of them accusing you dad."
"Your right sweety, I just have to calm down."
I never seen my dad so angry and tensed before. It was a akward and long, quiet ride back to the hotel.
