Sophia And The Sign

Jim's bit! Jim got bit!" A woman's voice screamed, causing Sophia to look up with fearful eyes. I stood up quickly, the sharpies in my lap tumbling onto the forest floor. Our sign only had 'Toby, Tori, Kibō, go' so far. Sophia immediately grabbed on to my arm and looked around warily, poor girl.

"Is Jim gonna eat us?" She whispered, pressing her body impossibly closer to mine. I stuttered out something illegible, took a deep breath and repeated what I said in English. "No. It takes a few hours to turn in my experience, and if something happens I'll protect you."

I placed the board we had used for a sign aside and made sure to put the crafting supplies back in the plastic bag they came in. When I deemed everything okay and easily assessable I let Sophia lead me back toward the others. Apparently I didn't stall nearly long enough as we walked in to see, I think his name is Daryl, trying to wack Jim with a pic axe.

"I thought you said these people were sane!" I screeched as I grabbed her arm and yanked her back towards the trees. The two of us screaming seemed to drag Daryl fro his rage as he threw the pic axe down and stormed off angrily. I ignored everyone and thing when I heard Sophia whimper and instead focused solely on her. I lowered us to the group and sat across from her, holding both of her hands in my own.

"It's okay Sophia! Don't worry. I won't tell you Jim will be fine, but I promise I won't let you end up like that." I whispered as I enveloped her into a hug. Her smaller body trembled as I held her, the poor mite had seen a lot, but probably never watched a man try and kill another like that.

Carol ran over and carefully took Sophia from me, comforting her as any mother would. "When you want, we can go finish the sign. I heard someone say we're going to the CDC. We can finish it now." I gave her another quick hug and struggled to my feet, my knees protesting. When I could finally walk I spotted Rick and walked over briskly.

"Sir, I would like to ask if I could be aloud to join you on your journey to the CDC. Sophia and I have made a sign for my family if they find themselves here afterwards." I respectfully asked, my eyes trained on the ground at my feet. I really wanted to have my baby in my arms again, but Sophia had weakened my defenses. I was starting to think that my siblings had headed the complete opposite direction, with how little evidence I had dug up and all.

"Of course you can! You can ride with Sophia and Carol if they don't mind." He seemed confused as I asked, but I brushed it off and returned to the mother-daughter pair. Sophia stood up and took my hand, once again leading me back to our sign.

Toby, Tori, Kibō,
Go to CDC
Kibō, mommy loves you.

We had finished the sign and Sophia was ecstatic. "Kibō is your sister right? I thought your mom wasn't with you." Had come up, causing me to tell Sophia my life story as we dragged the sign through the forest. She thought is was cool that I had become my little sisters mother figure and laughed as I recounted stories of the many times Loki had been weird. Man, it felt absolutely amazing to laugh after all of what we've been through.

We reached the camp as everybody was packing up the last things and set our sign at the base of the closest tree. The slab of wood was relatively the size of a door and was way heavier in my opinion, but against all odds we had dragged it here. Sophia ran off to her mom as Rick was explaining how the trip would go.

I stood awkwardly on the side as a family broke from the group, their daughter giving Sophia a doll before they left. As if she could sense my discomfort Sophia ran over and showed me the doll, her face twisted in a gleeful smile.

We had been put in the RV and immediately went back and sat at the table, talking about this and that. "What should we name her?" Sophia suddenly asked, her attention snapping to the cloth doll. "Don't ask me!" I replied, my hands immediately going up as if I was being held at gunpoint. "You named your daughter. How about this, what's Japanese for pretty?" I chuckled and answered her.

"Kawaiidesu." "Okay, meet Kawaii!" Sophia laughed as she held up her doll. Her face then changed in thought before she turned to me, her eyes wide with question. "Your Japanese is very beautiful, can you say something in Japanese for me?"

"Sofia, anata wa totemo utsukushīdesu." I said softly, gazing into her eyes. "What does it mean?" She asked, her body pivoted to face me. I winked and put my finger to my lips as my answer.

"Sophia, how did you think of the sign?" I asked, my head cocked curiously. Sophia's sign, the sign of Sophia, Sophia and the sign... OH MY LORD JESUS IN HEAVEN ABOVE THAT IS PERFECT!

"Sophia And The Sign!" I blurted out, effectively cutting off Sophia. "What?"
"I have a book idea! Get comfy!" Sophia obliged and pulled her feet up to sit cross-legged and gave me her undivided attention.

"Sophia Lawrence had been a private investigator for so long, it felt like it was her only life. Now, being a PI isn't the easiest job, but she loved it. She managed to solve many mysteries and help many people. In fact, she had never left a case unsolved!
Not until she investigated the Drakon case that is.
In a tragic story of unraveling the horrible lives and secrets of the deceased Drakon children we follow Sophia as she makes her way across the world following her case, and finding the signs that the Drakon kids left behind before the bodies were found in a river a decade ago. As Sophia slowly delves into the story of the Drakon children, one of pain, neglect, abuse, and untold horrors she learns that some of the Drakon's captors might not be as gone as she had thought. Watch Sophia fight to survival and solve her hardest case in, Sophia And The Signs!"

"Haha holy shit that was better than I thought it would be! Whatcha think?" I asked, my eyes probably pleading. Sophia stared at me, not the only one as I saw Carol and Lori staring as well from their place on the couch. "That bad huh?" I asked weakly, pulling my knees to my chest.

"No! That was awesome!" Sophia exclaimed, clasping her hands together. "Did you make that up?" I heard one of the women ask, I nodded in response before turning back to Sophia. I had pretty much blocked out the world at this point, at least until the RV suddenly stopped.

I watched in confusion as the men came in and carried Jim out, placing him at the base of a tree. I stepped out of the RV, each metal step farther from the safe atmosphere I was starting to love.

When I reached Jim I crouched down and looked him square in the eye. "You know what's gonna happen, right? You already had your fever, next your going to start throwing up to high heaven, then your going to black out multiple times until it feels more like repeatedly blinking that passing out. Your vision will go first, leaving you blind and helpless, second you lose every feeling in your body, leaving you numb. The pain will be excruciating as you feel the equivalent of your insides turning themselves inside out as your important internal organs fail one after another. The throwing up blood is one of the worst, then the hallucinating, and lastly the screaming faze. The screaming faze is when you can do nothing but scream and writhe until you pass out and never wake up again. It happened to my mom, are you sure you want to go through that?" I asked as I placed my hand on his shoulder. I could feel the heat of his fever from where I stood as I watched Jim weakly nod. "Well, I hope it's less painful for you. I hope you find your family."

I turned to leave when Jim carefully stopped me. "I heard you and Sophia taking, take care of her. I also know what you said, that was very nice of you." I blushed in embarrassment as I stood and waved goodbye, heading back to the RV.

As Sophia and I talked my mind kept drifting back to that hill miles behind us with a dying man on it. What if I had to watch someone I cared about die like that again? My dreams are horrible, but they are not as real as life is. I hoped with all I had that I would never have to watch someone die like that again, especially if I knew them well.

Let's hope that God is still accepting prayers, and pray that he will help us and either kill us all painlessly or kill the monsters, just help us.

Please.
