"The Prime did what now?!" Largo exclaimed in shock, nearly clipping the audio on the desk's communicator in Mika's room.
"I don't have time to explain it again." The dark-haired woman said as she loaded clips into her armorsuit's ammunition storage unit and checked her rifles and handguns were in good condition. To prevent being unprepared in an emergency, she had brought all her gear with her when she settled into the room. The girl hoped she wouldn't have to use all this, but there was no choice now. "At least, that's what I know for now. I'm going to confirm it for myself with her."
"Damn..." her interlocutor said, putting a hand on his forehead, looking distraught. "I'm sorry I suggested going to Nexia. I didn't want to put you in this danger."
"Don't be sorry. Imagine what would have happened if we learned about her plan later on, when it was too late." Mika replied, putting on her armor. "I gotta stop this right now."
"Good point." Largo answered. He seemed more nervous than her, and he was out of harm's way. "But what do you intend to do, exactly?"
"Take the baby, raise hell, get out of dodge. In that order. I'll work out the specifics as I go along." She spoke quickly now, as she was almost ready to set out.
"Then do what you must. But please take care. Don't go overboard." Her friend said, worried.
"I'll be OK. But if something happens to me..." Mika paused, considering the possibility, but kept going. The time for hesitation was up. "If I don't come back, but Riku does, let him know what went down here. He'll know what to do. We can't let this army get out there and wreak havoc on the universe."
"Will do." The Tetran male gave her their planet's army's salute, to which the female soldier answered in kind. Then, attaching one last grenade on her belt, resting her loaded firearms in the magnetic holsters on the back of her armor and carrying her helmet under one arm, the soldier turned the com-link off and left her room, ready to head in the direction of the throne room.
She stopped in her tracks before going too far, though. Mika felt like she was being watched, but turning around, she saw there was nobody in the hallway. In fact, the whole palace felt quieter. Not a good sign at all, but she had to press on.
The battle had just begun.
Mika barged into the throne room, making a loud noise with the doors. She was received by a pleasant sunset from the outside projections on the walls, and the contrastingly unpleasant presence of several Nexian attendants with weapons at the ready, all around the center table and their leader. The Nexis Prime was sitting at her chair; calm as could be, leaning on the table with one arm, her face resting on that hand, observing the newcomer with that a snarky smirk. The soldier was taken aback. She thought they could be expecting her, but she didn't really think they would; she was hoping her intrusion would be a surprise.
There was one good thing about this reception, though. The conversation would be shorter than anticipated.
"Kathryn." Mika snapped.
"You really didn't think we would allow a rogue like you to set foot on our planet just like that, would you, dear?" The Prime said softly. "That little communicator on the desk in your room has been monitored this whole time. You would think a soldier as renowned as you would have checked for that before using it, but what do you know. You don't live up to your reputation, Mikaro. How disappointing."
Shit, the soldier thought, facepalming internally. What a tremendous mistake she had made. They knew about her conversations with Largo; they knew what she had told him.
