"Today's weather is set for 59 degrees Fahrenheit with possible rain showers from 2-6 this afternoon," said the meteorologist. I sat in my kitchen eating breakfast with the TV on from the other room as I watched it with utter interest. New York has been very dull and not exciting lately. I guess it's the lack of people doing certain things to make reporters start reporting, and by that I mean no one has broken in anywhere for a hero to catch them. But who needs a hero anyways? They're all gone.
Sorry about that. I don't think about it a lot. My name is Blair. I work at a gamma lab in downtown New York where I'm working on how to use gamma radiation to heal us, but my experiments have failed. Miserably. Every time my assistants and I get close to solving the problem, our test subjects explode. If you're wondering if we use humans, of course not! Mainly we use frogs. And yes, they've all exploded. It's the radiation. It's way too powerful.
I can see the look on your face now. I said Gamma Radiation. You heard me correctly, I'm sure of it. Sounds familiar, right? You are correct. There is a reason. I am the daughter of Bruce Banner, a famous scientist known for his work in Gamma radiation, but you do know him as someone else, someone much more powerful: The Hulk.
Bruce had a terrible accident. There was a gamma explosion in his lab when he went to go get his friend Rick Jones (A-Bomb) from being exposed. However, as soon as Rick was saved, the explosion hit and Father was involved. The radiation didn't kill him as it was supposed to, but instead turned him into this giant green hulk thing which later got his name.
Bruce couldn't necessarily control his power because he got angry a lot while working on finding a cure but also General Ross trying to eliminate him. General Ross was Betty Ross' father, and Betty was my mother. She died after I inherited my father's job and lab. That was a sad day for me because I had already lost a parent, which brings me to the day of the last battle.
As you know, my father was apart of a superhero team called The Avengers. During one of the battles, all of them were defeated. Fortunately the battle ended in a success because SHIELD took care of the problem, but our world began to grieve over the loss of our heroes. I think they grieved more for Captain America I guess because he's, well, America. So losing him made it feel like we lost part of our world.
Mother and I we got the message that they had taken Bruce to the hospital after he was back in his human state, as he should be. We went to see him, but during the visit, he flat-lined and they couldn't bring him back. That was such a devastating moment in my life and in my Betty's life. They had been together for a very long time, and having me was one of their greatest inventions. Knowing that my dad didn't make it causes me to work harder than ever.
Anyways, back to my story. When I was born, I was born with brown hair and light skin. I was a normal baby...except for one thing: my eyes. They were supposed to be blue like my mom's but since my father had the gamma in his blood and genes, that was transferred to my body, causing my left eye to be green instead of blue. Now, it's not a light green like father's whenever he got angry. It's more of a dark green.
As I got older, I started developing a strength that I never knew I really had. I had super human strength and this worried my father because he was afraid that I would turn out to be like him. Whenever I got angry he would try to calm me down as quickly as he could so I wouldn't hulk-out. I never called it that. I always called it "going green" because that's what he did. He would go green.
When I inherited the job, I began to research more on what Bruce was working on before. One of his experiments that never really worked was the healing process. Now, I was planning on making it successful so I could make sure that his work was worth it.
I looked down at my watch. The time said 8:00. Sighing, I stood up and put my dishes in the dishwasher, put my shoes and lab coat on, and drove to the lab, a few blocks away from my house. The lab was a tall building with a bunch of reserved parking spaces for the employees. I noticed Peter's car near the front entrance and pulled into the open spot next to his. Turning the engine off, I walked inside.
I walked into the elevator and pressed the floor 2 button. When I got off, there was already a lot of people running around and examining the equipment, getting it all ready for today's test. I waved and nodded at some of the assistants as they said hi to me.
I glanced over to see Peter talking to a young girl. She's short and has long brown hair. I took my glasses off, wiped them with a handkerchief, and put them back on. I walked on over to Peter and smile.
"Blair, I have someone I want you to meet," he said, and the girl next to him smiled. "Hello," she said. Her voice was small and quiet, but she showed me kindness in her eyes, as if she was glad to be here. "I'm Melody Taylor. It's nice to meet you, Dr. Banner."
"Please, call me Blair. Dr. Banner was my father's name," I said and shook her hand. Melody let out a small gasp, and I raised an eyebrow. Then I realized what she was gasping at: my left eye. I laughed. "You noticed!" I said. I smiled and took my glasses off. "My left eye. Yeah it's green, not blue like my natural eye color. It's ok, I don't turn into a green creature like my dad could do. You're safe from my anger." Melody smiled a little.
Peter turned to me. "Well, I think we should get started," he said. I nodded in agreement. "Right." I faced Melody. "You want to work here, correct?" She nodded in excitement. "I need a job anyways," she answered. "All the other jobs I've tried out for didn't work in my favor. I've been fired and turned down."
"Well, you're in luck," I replied. "I need a new assistant. Are you ready to work for me?" Her eyes lit up with joy. "Yes I am!" she cried. "Then welcome to the lab, Mrs. Taylor." Melody took my hand. "Please, call me Melody."
