I woke up to the sun shining in through my window onto my face and into my eyes. I squinted, ah thank god it's summer I don't have to go to school. I laid back down closing my eyes all the way so that I did not have to squint. That was a weird dream I had last night. Then I heard a few gunshots and screams, some places on my arms and legs started to burn. My head started to throb.
"He's awake. Sam! You're awake how are you feeling?" Ellie asked in a worried tone.
"Let me see him, I need to check if he is actually alright. And if not what he needs to make him better," an unfamiliar voice said. Then I saw someone come over to me that looked like a young doctor. "How are doing, any aches or pains maybe a fever?" she asked me, while checking my blood pressure and other normal things that happen at a check up. Except she tells me to open my mouth to look inside she probed it open herself, and she did not warn me that she was going to hit my knee, she just did it. She seemed a bit impatient.
"Just a little stinging here and there, and my head is throbbing," I replied.
"Ok thats normal," then she reached down under the chair, and she adjusted the back of it. So that my head would be more comfortable and the throbbing would go down. "Has your memory come back yet, even a little of it?"
"No, but Nick explained the gist of everything to me," I replied, using my arms to help me up so that I could speak to everyone more actively. It was hard to see them lying down.
"Ok well take it easy," she said.
"This is Breya," He said showing a hand toward the girl who was tending to me.
"Nice to meet you again Sam!" she said almost in a totally different persona than before, even a happier voice than before. "Sorry for being so serious before but ya' know can't take life or death lightly!" she said very cheerily. "Oh, and feel free to call me Bree, like the cheese!" she said. I felt a bit supitouse of her still but felt that I could let my guard down because the others obviously trusted her, and her oura changed for the better.
"Nice to meet you to, again. I am sorry that I do not remember you," I said.
"Oh, that's alright," said hanging up her doctor's jacket, and cleaning up the rest of the things that she used.
"So Luke, would you mind answering my question from yesterday?" I asked him. "Who is our enemy?"
"Our enemy is a group of terrorists named Ischyrós, they have high tech nuclear weapons and good soldiers. And like any good insane person they want to take over the world. The difference is that Ischyrós is the closer than anyone ever before to actually taking over the world. Now they have not succeeded yet but they are pretty close. That is why we are here, we are protecting what is left of this world that belongs to us," Nick replied very seriously. We were fighting terrorists. Little kids were what the defense of the world had come to. The world had trained little kids to be assassins, hackers, and a matter of other bad things. And they expected to win.
"Wait, so you mean that the fate of our free world rests on 14 and 15 year old kids, kids that were trained to assassins, hackers, doctors, and sumo wrestlers. And we are supposed to win, against terrorists, terrorists with high tech nuclear weapons?" I asked amamezed in a bad way. "How on earth is that supposed to happen?! What has the world come to?"
"Well if it doesn't happen then there won't be a world for that to happen on. At least not one that is free," Nick said sternly, he meant what he said. We would have to do the impossible in to keep our freedom.
"So we have to do the impossible to keep our freedom?" I asked.
"Nothing is impossible, not completely. There is always that one percent chance of possibility that we have to believe in. That one percent chance is always there. There is always that chance that something goes the other way, whether it is in the wrong way, or the right way. We have to believe in that!" Nick said full of confidence in the possibility of something being possible.
"Ok then, but I was wondering if I have amnesia then do I remember how to hack? Maybe we should find out," I said making sure that we were going to succeed, we do it right.
"Your right. We should check that out. Lets ask for a 'practice test' to see if you still have the skills to hack or if it is stuck in your brain," Luke agreed. We left the hospital room, and checked out of the hospital. "Let's go to the tech center. I'll meet you there. I think I know somebody who might be able to help us, but I need to get him," He said with a lazy salute as he turned around in the other direction looking for this person who might be able to help us.
"Got ya'' see you later," Nick said saluting back. "OK, follow me. We need to get the tech set up," We were walking down some hallways and made some turns, we left HT and down a long hallway to the TR (Tech Room). We sat down at a computer meant for practicing hacking, and other computer skills. Right after we were done setting up, Nick showed up with a guy in his late twenties to early thirties.
"Right on time, we just finished setting up," Nick said to luke with a slight turn of his head to look at him. He was putting his arms on the back of the chair that I was sitting on to support himself.
"Well that's good, meet John Castellroy, Tech specialist of the 31 legion. He's a good friend of mine. Infact our family's used to go on trips together all the time. So we know each other from before," Luke introduced him. "He'll try to help you out, I've already filled him in on everything."
"Nice to finally meet you Sam and everyone else. I've heard so much about you," He said holding out his hand for everyone to shake. "If you see some people looking at me weirdly don't mind them. It's only because I was so good at this kind of thing the first time I gave it a go. So what can I do you for?" He said in a cheerful mood.
"Well for starters, see if I still remember how to work my magic on these machines and codes, we wanted to see if I still remembered how to since I lost my memory and all," I said eager to see if I could still be of any use to my legion after losing my memory.
"Well for starters let's run a little test to see and what you still remember, and then we can work from there," John said.
He typed in a command to computer to get to some practice tests that would suit this situation. "Here we go, try this, this way we can see how you do."
"All right," I said and started solving the codes.
Once I was done John had to sit there for a minute contemplating what to do.
"Well good news, it doesn't seem like you never learned it, so we don't have to teach you to hack all over again. It seems like you have maybe just gotten a bit rusty. So some practice should tune you right up and you will be fine," John said.
So I set aside time each day to practice hacking, otherwise I would be of no use to squad, even worse I might be a liability.
