"HAPPY NEW YEAR!" All the Avengers shout as the ball drops in Time Square.
"Well, somehow we made it to 2016 despite having the most ridiculous job in the world." The sarcastic wit of a very tipsy Stark is quite obvious.
"Don't you have a speech at MIT tomorrow?" A concerned Steve Rogers asks as he rolls his eyes.
"Yeah, well...its not like this will be the first time I'm hungover and doing groundbreaking research."
"Well, I'd love to stay and listen to Mom and Dad argue again, but I need to get some sleep." Dinah grins as she jabs at the two most stubborn Avengers. She walks over and gives both of them a kiss on the cheek, "Happy New Years fellas!" Dinah heads to bed in the Avengers Tower.
"So, go break some eggs!" The crowd of MIT graduates cheer loudly as Tony tells them their debts have been paid off and their senior research projects will all be funded. Tony makes his way to the elevator...noticing a woman standing by herself as if she had been waiting for the elevator, yet...she never pushed the button. Tony begins feeling uneasy. "Can I help you get somewhere?"
"I'm exactly where I need to be." She reaches into her purse and throws Tony for a panic, but instead of a firearm, she pulls out a photograph of her son. "My son was top of his class, doing volunteer work for a hospital in Sokovia, when one of your iron projects went haywire and dropped a building on him. Who's going to avenge my son?!"
Tony's heart rate begins rising, as an anxiety attack approaches. He dashes out of the building and decides to make some very irreversible decisions.
"India Gulf Niner Niner, checking in, over?" Natasha nervously asks over the headset which is a transmission to the Quin-jet.
"Nat. What's cooking good-"
"We have a problem." Nat's voice is shaking.
Dinah reroutes the plane, heading back to New York. "What's wrong?"
"Its Tony and Steve. The family is splitting up. Secretary Ross and Tony are pressuring Steve to sign the Sokovia Accords."
"The hell is that?" Dinah had been on a month long mission. Natasha explains the severity of the situation.
"Dinah...we could lose the Avengers. Clint already retired. Tony has Wanda on lock-down and Steve is after Barnes...which is causing him to be labeled a criminal."
"Shit..." Dinah lays her head back for a moment, "I'm on my way home. We can fix this. Where are you right now?"
"At the tower."
"Alright, I'll radio in and head back." Dinah begins changing course and reroutes the flight pattern. "Hey, tell Steve-" Dinah is cut off by a large blast and then static...
"Dinah?" Nat slightly panics, "Dinah??!!"
"That recording was the last I heard, 6 hours ago!" Natasha says with tears brimming her eyes. "You guys start fighting and then we lose her!" Nat paces the table where Steve and Tony are sitting. They are in the giant underwater security prison.
"I had no idea she was going to be going over one of the most dangerous portions of Syria." Tony folds his hands over his face in stress. "Where was her destination supposed to be?"
